Brown caught him coming in, plain and simple.

Short right hand was the beginning of the end.
I had it even coming into the 10th personally. 5 rounds to 4 for Browne, but even due to the knockdown in the 6th

Good on Lucas! Maybe a fight with Parker could be in the works now

I had Chagaev comfortably ahead and thought the British commentary was clearly biased towards Browne. Admittedly there wasn't much to split them in many rounds, but I thought Chagaev was a bit sharper and generally more effective, while a lot of the 'outboxing' Browne supposedly did was just him moving and missing with jabs.

With Browne's heart and power a lead can be made largely irrelevant in an instant though.

Would love to see that.

I wonder if Browne winning has any impact on Parker's decision to take the IBF route and fight Takam.

Getting silly with organisations moving away from Fury. Boxing politics is full of arseholes.

What's IBF's problem? Lack of money?

...I had this shitty stream, coudn't see a lot, thought Chagaev was edging though...Russian commentators obviously biased in favour of Ruslan..making jokes of Lucas being supported by 24 million Australians including kangoroos and all in vain...

Thanks, out surfing and got back too late. Anyone know the official card before the stoppage?

The stoppage was just fine, anyone complaining wanted to see a defensless Chagaev be on the receiving end of brain damage. Watch the fight ending again....jeezzzz!!

Just timed the 6th round - 3:16 before the bell went, then Chagaev went on a few punches after that. VERY dodgy
Massive props to Browne - great chin and boxed way better than I thought he was capable of

Now I see it for the second time I think I should take some of my words back, Chagaev wasn't KO, but the ref had the right to stop this fight, it simply took Chagaev too long to give resistance again, you can't continue to only defend forever.

Perhaps the Russian promoter is too lousy to buy Swiss clocks.

Chagaev was not fighting back. That is usually a sign to a referee to end the contest before somebody gets badly hurt. Chagaev was too game for his own good.

Oh wow, Tyrone Spong actually fought a boxing match today?!

This is the first time ever someone managed to take him to the second round before he got KOed.

Tyrone Spong won against a 12-0 guy this time, a flawed 12-0, but a 12-0, Tyrone Spong is getting more and more experience now, he already has 4 rounds experience after his first 3 boxing matches.

Good stoppage, Chagaev was taking too much punishment on the ropes and not throwing anything back.

I picked Browne to win, but narrowly. Lucky guess, but knew he had a punchers chance and moved better in the ring. This is only Browne's 5th or 6th 12 round fight, and not sure if he has had to fight all 12 yet. 36 yrs old, kind of like Ortiz and Stiverne so his time is short. It doesn't help that he looked like crap his last fight either.

As in the Julius Long fight? I agree, he looked like crap against Long, but he looked better than he ever had against Chagaev.

I like Parker in that fight, thought Browne would certainly have a puncher's chance. The difference in handspeed would be huge.

Ref stops the figh!?!?

That was a very fast stoppage, Chagaev wasn't even on the ground for a second time, I guess the refs really don't like anything that lives in, or close near Russia.
Are you being sarcastic?? That was a great stoppage, tad late if anything but all in all a great stoppage IMO

I had Lucas Browne up 87-84 on my card. He had at least the first three or four rounds as he showered good footwork and quite decent jab, he really prepared well and Chagaev was carrying some ballast.

Just finished watching fight on Youtube.
Chagaev could have finished this fight early had he been in better shape I think. I was for Big Daddy as he is genuine nice character. He had guts, came to fight and got a lucky punch and an okay stoppage in the end. Chagaevs defense absorbed most of it, but he seemed staggered and didn't fire back then the ref waved it off.
However I thought he looked very stiff when forced to backpedal, sometimes clumsy when trying to brawl. Chagaev was visibly the better boxer, had the more solid skills, seemed to hurt Browne more often with his shots and kept him from using his height and weight advantage for most of the time. However, with his hunched over defense and his gut hanging out, it was difficult to spot Chagaev as the defending champ. Still, he was chasing the bigger man around the ring most of the time.
Thumbs up for Lucas for getting of the canvas and surviving, his win is definitely deserved. I can't see him holding on to the title long when I see who else is moving towards title challenges.
What was atrocious though was the blatant fraud happening there again, not stopping the round because Browne was hurt was the most obvious cheating I have seen in a while. Good that the title will be kept away from those shady people for now, I mean I understand the prestige and money flowing into that part of the world when heavyweight championships are held there, but come on. Chagaevs wife shooing away the camera after he got knocked out is one of the funniest things I have seen in boxing lately though.
That said, while he always had the skills of a champion and held the belt previously, seeing that neither Chagaev nor Oquendo had beaten anyone of significance in ages their matchup for the vacant title was dubious to begin with. This fight was terrible as well. Against Pianeta he looked in command so I thought he had another good run in the tank. I can't believe that Chagaev was really only 2 lbs heavier than in the last 2 fights at the weigh in, he looked a lot fatter!
