He'd lost fights in the past though.Impractical Poster wrote:The aura of invincibility is now gone from McGregor. I believe a huge part of his game was the mental warfare and confidence he would display before his matches. We saw how weak his ground game was in the Mendes fight (another fighter called in on 2 weeks notice). Once Nate had him on the ground, it was quick work. The top at LW are not going to take his trash talk seriously now, and should dispatch of Conor fairly easily, barring they don't get caught on the feet. Conor is a very fast and flashy striker, but he has been feasting on the 145ers. He has enjoyed a significant size advantage over those guys.
I believe Aldo and Edgar will beat Mac at 145 as well. I doubt the trash talk will have the same effect of Jose this time round.
I also think Conor is going to have a harder time making 145 from now on. He will most likely settle into 155 and become a gatekeeper.

True. But, for the most part, he enjoyed a weight and height advantage over the guys at 145. He always looks horrible at the weigh ins. Looks like a different guy all together at the weigh ins...lefty wrote:I wouldnt say he had a huge size advantage over Aldo though, weight wise. Re: MMA thread?
Wouldnt argue with that. I think 155 is his natural weight class.Impractical Poster wrote:True. But, for the most part, he enjoyed a weight and height advantage over the guys at 145. Wasn't his claim of being a pretty good amatuer boxer rubbished? No records of his claims to success etc? In am probably wrong but I'm sure I see it mentioned here on Boxrec somewhere.lefty wrote:He was a decent amateur boxer but then got into MMA and particularly studied karate/taekwondo in regards to his striking.lillywhite14 wrote:McGregor looked like he didn't like it once the going got tough against a man his own size ( to be fair I've only seen 3 fights of his, the other two I thought he was fighting a guy a weight division below himself! )
He landed some decent shots in the first round but Diaz shook them off and dug deep. Diaz landed some decent shots second round and McGregor seemed to fold. Now he's been beaten, there's a chance he loses confidence, self doubt creeps in etc
He can fight no doubt but he's a tad overhyped to say the least. I'm assuming his background is kick boxing?
I'm glad I took the tip on here of Diaz by sub
Re: MMA thread?
I don't follow MMA closely, but I believe that no one found evidence to support the claim that he won a national title as an amateur.
Re: MMA thread?
Yeah I dunno. I think there was claims of him being a national champion that were rubbished but I don't know about him being a pretty good amateur generally.lillywhite14 wrote:Wasn't his claim of being a pretty good amatuer boxer rubbished? Hey I am smoking the good stuff. Once again I call my shot and back it up. Lancenix is the real fornicating deal and do not ever forget that. Anyways.... you were saying????Truthseeker wrote:What have you been smoking? I want some.I think Nate is going to win this fight by submission

McGregor moved up 25 pounds in weight. Put your small weenie back in your pants. Not a surprise at all. I have been predicting this outcome since the fight was announced.Tinnie wrote:another hype job bites the dust

Man an I called that ever since the fight was announced. It sucks we cannot bet here in the states.EddieShredder wrote:Englishists..... you can get 9/1 on Diaz by Sub at Ladbrookes..... that's a serious bet.

Re: MMA thread?
Exactly. This turns out in the end like an exhibition to me. He jumped 2 weight classes but this does not change McGregor at all for me. He is still the champ at 145 and now I think he will return to 145. I think he is now going to pass on the 155 title bout now that he sees that his game maybe does not translate against bigger guys and he is not that great on the ground.p4p1 wrote:I also wonder if the fight was at 170 because Dana is worried about his meal ticket. A loss at 170 is much better than a loss from 160 or under. Diaz did say he agreed to 155, he also didn't look like he cut at all to make weight either. Not that I think he wins as I think both Diaz brothers striking is hugely overrated but interesting anyway.Impractical Poster wrote:Nate didn't just make Conor flinch, he made him just about jump out of his pants.
Not that I think Nate wins, but it is interesting. I wonder if Conor is feeling the pressure, finally? He is supposed to win this fight. Nate is a huge underdog. Nate is a late replacement. Nate is not intimidated. Man, I hope we get an upset!

He went up 25 pounds for this fight. He is still a good MMA fighter. You do not know anything about the sport do you??Ricky_ wrote:eff the UFC.

I believe Mcgregor himself called out Mayweather to a boxing match? Not an MMA fight.Lancenix wrote:Who said that? Re: MMA thread?
Got up to 9-1. I called it on this board the day the fight was announced. Nate by submission. 25 pound jump was a lot. And Nate is no joke.EddieShredder wrote:6-1 on Nate winning by submission, same on decision for Nate too.... that's a pretty nice bet.

No he was talking MMA style or a fight. He never said a boxing match.Boxerbeetle wrote:I believe Mcgregor himself called out Mayweather to a boxing match? Re: MMA thread?
He didn't. He trained in a very good amateur boxing gym in his youth with Phil Sutcliffe Jr, Jamie Kavanagh and others but as for winning titles, I think that was white lies/rumours.crusader wrote:I don't follow MMA closely, but I believe that no one found evidence to support the claim that he won a national title as an amateur.

Re: MMA thread?
Well that's just effing stupid then. Obviously Mcgregor would win in an MMA fight, just as easily as Floyd would win in a boxing match.Lancenix wrote:No he was talking MMA style or a fight. Re: MMA thread?
He went up 25 pounds in weight. That would be like Floyd jumping up to fight Kovalev. Do you realize that or are you just too stupid? This was an easy call for me. Sorry you made an ass out of yourself at that bar. I wish it was on tape so we could see what a true fool you are acting crazy over nothing.Tanzio wrote:Sidenote; last Saturday I could not find one bar in this city of about three million carrying Frampton v Quigg. Tonight there were five large bars within easy walking distance carrying the UFC card, and they were all standing room only. I was sedate through the whole card until Diaz landed that first left. I think all of the 20 something hotties sitting around the pool table covered by plywood wet there panties when I suddenly leaped to my feet howling as the fighter of the century folded like a circus tent.
The majority of the bar was in shock, literally speechless.

Zojo if Diaz fails the drug test then your prediction would trump mine. Let us wait and see.Lancenix wrote:Would not be shocked by all that at all. Not one bit.zojo, wrote:Short notice fight. Will Diaz get nicked for smoking pot?Truthseeker wrote:

Fight is in two weeks. It takes four weeks for it to get out of your system.
Seems like a great way to protect Conor's record.
Diaz wins via sub, but fails a drug test. Thus, the fight becomes an no contest.
Everyone gets paid and Conor's record in the UFC is still undefeated.
