Re: MMA thread?
I'm not convinced that Ronda could pull off that kind of game plan. She's not smart or patient enough for that IMO. Too emotional, doesn't like listening to her corner. She would chase Holm just as hard as she did last time. Holm was also a min and a bit away from keeping her title and I'm not convinced Ronda could dig deep like Tate did to get that choke through sheer will(admittedly Holm thought she was safe standing up on the cage and forget about her neck) but Ronda has never shown that she could do that.

Re: MMA thread?
It will be interesting to see if Tate has gotten that much better or if Ronda is still a nightmare matchup for her.
I don't think Ronda not listening to her corner is the problem. I think her corner is the problem. They convinced her she's some sort of monster striker even though all she can do is charge forward with her chin up and no head movement throwing big one-twos. She needs to diversify her grappling a bit (mix in more wrestling-style takedowns) and use her striking more judiciously.

Re: MMA thread?
The confidence gained from Tate achieving something Rousey couldn't might give Meisha that little bit extra. 3rd time lucky.
Re: MMA thread?
My boxing trainer actually knows her team and asked him wtf was up with it and the reply was that she doesn't listen you have to tell her she's great etc and even in between rounds you can only tell her one or two things in between rounds otherwise she won't do any of it at all, not that she will do what you tell her to anyway.jujigatame wrote:It will be interesting to see if Tate has gotten that much better or if Ronda is still a nightmare matchup for her.

Look, I understand you like him, but he is extremely mouthy and disrespectful. I get that it sells. But, like even you admit, he can cross the line. He sacrifices morals for money and fame. If that's honorable to some, so be it.
However, back to comparison... Conor is effective at a lower weight, but it doesn't seem to translate at the higher weights. Same as Broner. They are both extremely disrespectful to their opponents. They are both extremely flashy in personality and fighting style. However, as far as the PPV numbers go, Conor has been brought up and managed much better than Broner had been. Conor is also smarter than Broner.
Conor is a top guy at FW, but not at LW. His last 2 losses have come from LW fighters. The Duffy fight was at LW, and even though this was technically a WW fight, Diaz is a career LW fighter.
The difference is Connor has managed a big win and as far as pay per views go, it's because he's white/Irish and carries KO power at 145lbs. All the nasty trash talk does is turn off his decent fans and excite his trashy ones. I see it on social media in the run up to his fights.

Lol, they are sticking Diaz in with Robbie Lawler.

I would take anything that comes out of that camp with a grain of salt. Edmund has never done or said anything that has made me think he's a competent trainer. Ellenberger has looked completely atrocious under his tutelage, and Browne hasn't shown any sort of significant improvement. I think Ronda's judo and athleticism carried her to the top of a weak division and Edmund has been riding her coattails.p4p1 wrote:My boxing trainer actually knows her team and asked him wtf was up with it and the reply was that she doesn't listen you have to tell her she's great etc and even in between rounds you can only tell her one or two things in between rounds otherwise she won't do any of it at all, not that she will do what you tell her to anyway.jujigatame wrote:It will be interesting to see if Tate has gotten that much better or if Ronda is still a nightmare matchup for her.

WTF? I was looking forward to Lawler/Thompson and thought that fight was can't miss. Strange matchmaking.cletomex wrote:Lol, they are sticking Diaz in with Robbie Lawler.
Re: MMA thread?
Something that does annoy me is how after the fight his fans just expect guys like Aldo to get over things he said leading up to the fight because it was for promotion etc I think that's bullshit. He does say some pretty offensive shit at times and goads guys into getting angry which is great to get inside their head but some guys will understandably hold onto that.

Diaz fights Lawler next then the UFC can go on about how Mac was beaten by a WW etc bullshit fight though Diaz should get the RDA fight next.jujigatame wrote:WTF? I agree they want Nate Diaz smashed, no way can be beat Lawlor. I'd have thought Dos Anjos rematch would have been a given...they must want to keep that open for Mystic Meg.

Diaz will do big numbers against a champ. So, guess they will stick him in with Robbie, while Conor either defends at 145 or fights RDA. Then, if Diaz loses at 170, they can throw him in against the 155 champ. If they pit Diaz against RDA now, interest may be lost on Diaz if he loses again.
But, hey, he might beat Lawler. Big brother has a KO win over him. Maybe Nate can follow. I doubt it, but maybe.
Re: MMA thread?
I read it years ago but stumbled across it again today. The article that Ben Fowlkes wrote about them in 2012 is the best piece about the Diaz Brothers that I have read. It gives you an insight into Nate that goes beyond the "one half of an interchangeable super charged cholo thug duo" he is often characteristic as, and through Nate you also get a sense of Nick.

Exactly, this "selling the fight" as an excuse for saying whatever offensive shit comes into his head is pretty weak. Cash over class. Never found him to be particularly witty either, he's just generally louder and more offensive than his opponent. All that aside I like watching his fights so cant complain too much. The drop back to 145 is going to be tough on him, might be worth a punt on whoever he faces. Hard to see Aldo lasting 5 rounds though unless he employs a very grappling based game plan.

Re: MMA thread?
Conor needs to vacate the 145 title. That weight cut is going to do him in. You can't get away with that ish for too long. 155 is just right for him.
Re: MMA thread?
Diaz is going to be fighting for the WW title just as I predicted. I am once again right on the money. Just as I was for this fight.p4p1 wrote:Ground game does not equal wrestling his subs are great his wrestling not so much. by commish do you mean co owner of the UFC? There is a lot of rumours circulating as to why he was so visibly upset when Connor took Aldo.
Diaz said in the press conference he was fine with 155, if they were so confident in Mac why not have him fight Cerrone who was in shape and ready to make 155 having just fought rather than an out of shape dude rated lower than Cowboy?
You have shown yourself In this thread to not know MMA that well yes you got the call right but even a broken watch is right twice a day.
Edit: if his only chance at being successful is at 145 where he is massive compared to the guys he fights then he can't really be that good.

I'm not guna lie, I was gutted for Conor. Vastly mis-understood on this forum it seems. However I've been a fan of Diaz since TUF5 so that softened the blow a little.
Conor definitely relies on his left hand too much, this loss should make him realize that and could very well improve him. I don't understand why he's reluctant to throw a regular high kick, he's flexible enough and has great balance and timing, could be a good weapon for him.
Aldo rematch would be a good option but I do think McGregor beats him again.
Don't write off Conor at Lightweight either. RDA would be the favourite to beat him but I think Conor matches up well with the likes of Pettis and Cowboy.
Enjoyed UFC unstoppable too. A great run of fights (injuries permitting) to look forward to over the next couple of months. Especially the Jones/Cormier, Rockhold/Weidman & Cruz/Faber rematches and Khabib v El Cucuy and Rory v Thompson.
Explain how he is "vastly misunderstood on this forum" please

Everyone seems to bask in his failings. He seems to be strongly disliked by quite a few on here. I've been through it before, he oversteps the mark sometimes but he's been incredible at selling fights and creating interest. He's made himself, the UFC and his opponents a lot of money. He took the defeat like I knew he would. He confirmed it about 4 fights ago with the cocky in prediction, confident in preparation, humble in victory OR defeat line. To me, he's made something of himself with a mix of verbal and physical skills. Some people act as if he was gifted everything. He's demanded it.

I thought Mcgregor just got beat by a bigger guy, Nate was huge by comparison and too long for him, the first round lets not forget was pretty much in Conors favour, I thought anyway...thing is Conor kinda set himself up for the fail with all the Mayweatheresque money talk (and while we are on that topic hopefully this puts to bed any type of cross code boxing match certainly with PBF cos CM wouldn't go 4 rounds with any skilled boxer under the queensbury rules.
However it was a brave move to move up that much weight ..large at FW or not and actually he was humble and gracious in defeat.
Kudos to both men in what was a pretty entertaining ten mins or so!
