No problem here with the cards (l'm guessing the 88-81 s down to the 6th being scored 10-7), though admittedly they don't reflect the bout's competitiveness. Not much in the rounds but l thought Chag just kept dong enough for the most part...Browne may have given the impression that his movement and jabs equated to him outboxing Ruslan but l thought it was generally ineffective work and preferred what l saw as Ruslan's sharper bursts.

Competitive doesn't have to equal close when fights are scored round by round.

It that were middle of the round he knocks him out. Browne landed his big shot in the middle of the round and had plenty of time to follow up. Often times this is the difference in winning and losing fights. Not if you hurt a guy, but when you do so.
Not just slightly ahead.

The judges had it 88-82, 88-2 and 88-81. All for Chagaev.
Disgusting - KD aside it was a very competitive fight up until the stoppage.
Probably more competitive than those scores indicate anyway.

The first 6 rounds where clearly chagaevs, then there came two close rounds and then two for Browne. Scorecards are correct imo, I saw the match live on TV, that's how I saw it.

Agreed, Chagaev was well ahead. If he hadnt got caught it would have tough for Browne to overcome the decifit. Was an entertaining fight between two competent heavyweights. In a perfect world world where there werent 957 titles floating around it wouldn't be a title fight.

I'm not saying that a 88-82 scorecard is impossible, but that all three judges had it that way is sketchy. I think you could fairly have had Browne ahead too - there were a lot of close rounds.

What rounds do you call close?

It's hard to remember which specific rounds. I had Browne up before the KD and I definitely gave him rounds 2 and 8. I will have to watch the fight again to give you a more definitive answer.

I didn't see it that close. But with Browne taking the fight out of the judge's hands, just like he said he would, it matters mot.
