Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
Re: Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
Who at HW would be a lock to beat Ortiz? Nobody, IMO. He is one of the best HWs in the world at the moment. Hopefully he gets a shot at the top dogs.
Re: Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
Ortiz reminds me of one of these old WWWF (when it was called that) guys who beats all these bums and then beats an old trail horse who was past his prime.
I favor Ortiz against Browne. Against Wilder, Fury, Parker, Joshua, or Wlad, not so much.

I would favor him v WKlit, Wilder and possibly Fury at the moment, based mainly on chins.Tony1244 wrote:Ortiz reminds me of one of these old WWWF (when it was called that) guys who beats all these bums and then beats an old trail horse who was past his prime.

Ridiculous comment. The 'everyone is doing it, I just got caught' excuse is utterly pathetic. The bans for doping in pro boxing are so laughable no-one gives too much of a sh1t if they get caught.
And apparently plenty of fans don't give a sh1t either...
On the bodybuilding site he was posting what steroids and accompanying drugs he was taking per cycle - doing it heavy can cost hundreads of pounds and his cycles were. He was also boxing at the time.
I posted this in a thread about said fighter and included links to the other message board. I received 2 PMs - one from a poster saying "take that down if i were you, hes sort of person that'll get people to find you and fill you in if anything comes of your post" the second was from an admin saying "we've removed your post as its slanderous, final warning or youre banned"
About 2 years later he was banned for steroid use! During them two years he couldve hurt someone. Badly.
Thats my little story, further evidence its rife, well, how about (off top of my head) the following being caught...
Vitali Klit
Roy Jones Jnr
James Toney
Evander Holyfield

Ortiz would fornicating destroy Dimitrenko. This is a guy that was knocked out by Eddie Chambers and Pulev, both of whom are hardly huge punchers and he's also been dropped by journeymen in recent times if memory serves me correct. In the Pulev fight he almost seemed to have basically quit aswell!jezzamundo wrote:Which Dimitrenko or Ortiz fights would lead you to believe that? Seems a very odd opinion to me as Dimitrenko has never impressed me.RandomUsername wrote:Dimitrenko was scheduled to fight Ortiz but Ortiz opted to fight Thompson instead cause he knew that Dimitrenko was all wrong for him. Really? The same Dimitrenko who was knocked down twice and clearly outpointed by blown-up cruiserweight Eddie Chambers?!

What do we know about Ortiz's chin? TT was a gifted fighter, but he was never a big puncher and is almost as old as I am.
Re: Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
We know that he has 22 KOs in 25 fights. He hasn't been rocked that I know of (anyone correct me if I'm wrong, please). Wilder has been clipped and down several times. He has been in some distress in a few of his fights. WKlit's obsession with not being caught since the last time he was KTFO is the stuff of legend. Fury has been floored by a little guy.Tony1244 wrote:Tanzio wrote:I would favor him v WKlit, Wilder and possibly Fury at the moment, based mainly on chins.Tony1244 wrote:Ortiz reminds me of one of these old WWWF (when it was called that) guys who beats all these bums and then beats an old trail horse who was past his prime.

Ortiz is not Szpilka. If he clips Wilder, it will be preying mantis on ice time. WKlit could hurt Ortiz or anyone else if he lands but he is so cautious and done, imo, that I would bet on the Cuban if it was happening today. Fury does not have the pop to get into a firefight with Ortiz, imo.
I just hope that we get a chance to find out.
Re: Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
For all I know Wilder may be KOd in his next fight. Having said that, I think the stories of his weak chin have been exaggerated. You say Wilder has been "down several times." I'm only aware of a flash knockdown by a Harold Sconiers that was ruled a slip. Please fill me in on the others. Molina had Wilder stumbling a little bit, but that happens. Bonavena had Ali stumbling a bit. In neither case do I believe the stumbler was seriously hurt IMO. Haye rocked Wilder in sparring. As they say, sheet happens. Certainly Wilder doesn't have the defensive ability of Wlad, but it should be noted Wlad didn't become a great defensive fighter till well into his career.Tanzio wrote:We know that he has 22 KOs in 25 fights. We don't know what would happen if Ortiz was nailed by Wilder. I can imagine Fury outpointing Ortiz. But as you say, I hope we find out.
Re: Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
Wilder was down in the amateurs. Not sure how many times. Chins are relative. I think that Wilder has a reasonable chin except for the elite level. I believe that is one of the reasons he has been brought along slowly against less than threatening comp for the most part. I would love for Wilder to prove me wrong, btw, and become the king of the hill, but I still think that he will be doing The Hitman Shuffle in the not too distant future.Tony1244 wrote:For all I know Wilder may be KOd in his next fight. Ortiz would crush fragile Dimitrenko...Dimmy would be in a shell after just a round or two, if he lasted that long.
Flash KD against Sconiers? I haven't seen footage, but I've read accounts from people who were there and it seems to be the consensus that it was a fairly hard KD and that Wilder was clearly hurt. Wilder's chin doesn't seem as bad as some make out (he was fighting at 200 pounds when he was stopped in the amateurs--was making that weight impairing his durability?) and he recovered quickly from the Sconiers and Molina incidents, but I get the impression that he isn't particularly difficult to hurt if someone lands cleanly. I agree that there are still questions about Ortiz's chin--he hasn't been in with any notable hitters and hasn't taken many clean shots, though considering he's shown no signs of being hurt I suspect that he's not glass chinned (doesn't take a notable puncher or clean shots to expose that).Tony1244 wrote:For all I know Wilder may be KOd in his next fight. He was down twice in that round and floundering about the ring.

Unless I'm thinking of something different, Wilder. I agree that his chin doesn't look as bad as it appeared in that fight, but he was badly hurt.Tony1244 wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He was down twice in that round and floundering about the ring.

I was just trying to find footage. I didn't read anything about Wilder being down twice. Seems like this material is classified or something. Read Wilder down once, and Sconiers down 4 times. But who knows?

I think footage used to be online but was taken down.

I saw it years ago. I remember him going down twice and while the shots might have looked like a flash variety, he was noodle legged.

That is the point. His legs are about Hearns girth and The Hitman boasted flamingo limbs from the waist down.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I saw it years ago. I remember him going down twice and while the shots might have looked like a flash variety, he was noodle legged.

Best in the world?
hm?...to be best in the world requires to beat best Heavyweights out there.
I take a look to his Fightrecord...i see Jennings....but Fights like Thompson doesn't bring Ortiz on top...i read Ustinov next?...sorry, but Ortiz is ready to Fight Top Ten Heavyweights.
He started late pro...but had big Amateur-Background.
No Question...he had skills to go straight up on top, but lean back..make a coffe... and waiting what future will bring for him.
At this time he took slowly one step to another to the top...

Yeah, I don't know man, Shannon Briggs defeating 6 tomato cans in 2014 really didn't mean much besides that he wasn't taking it slowly.
I give Ortiz props though for the first defense against Jennings, a defense within 2 months of winning a title - even if it's just the WBA interim - has not been seen in a long long time.

Re: Luis Ortiz is the best heavyweight in the world
Ortiz is trying to fight top contenders, but the top contenders continually avoid him. Initially Jennings was planning to avoid him as well, but later boxed him anyway. I would have loved to see that fight going on a little longer, even though Jennings got smashed all over the ring, he wasn't even that bad looking on the scorecards and I'm not sure how good Ortiz is in the later rounds. I think Ortiz should fight Haye, but I expect Haye to be too much of a coward to fight Ortiz.
