What if Russians decide to do it in Sevastopol which most of the world including the U.S. still recognizes as a Ukranian territory ? That would make a decision whether to go there even trickier for Wilder.
Having the fight in a warzone could affect the gate.

It is absolutely not a war zone, and it hasn't been since WW2. They already staged boxing shows there. Here is one of them:

Very odd that BoxRec considers Crimea part of Russia when most of the world (including the UK, where BoxRec is based) still considers it part of Ukraine.

Oh yeah the fact that Wilder may even fight in Russia :oo this topic cannot be changed at all. Who cares if he loses badly, just the fact he may step in the ring with Potvetkin is BEYOND breaking news.

Anyone know how Deontay intends on training? I would advise using montages and chopping lots of wood, also if he wants to know how to lose his tail jogging on snowy roads works a treat.

It's part of Russia.

Many Russians died defending it from the Muslim Turks and their allies in the Crimean War and from the Nazis during WW II. Administration of the area was given to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1954 because the Russian Republic was so huge.

you could make the same argument for all of ukraine, then, going back to the founding of kiev.
since the soviet breakup, russia and ukraine have had separate coastlines on the black sea (crimea).

We're not supposed to get off topic here but "we gave it to you so we can take it back" is not valid by international law. Mexico can't just take back Texas because they feel like it. Crimea was part of Ukraine for 60 years before Putin got his nationalist panties in a twist over Euromaidan. The number of nations that actually recognize Crimea as part of Russia now is minuscule and that's counting such luminaries as North Korea and Nicaragua.

i think a lot of people get confused about the crimean region, though.
when russians refer to "krim", they are generally referring to russian crimea, like sochi.
this is separate from ukraine crimea. it's kind of like the greek state of macedonia and
the country. someone who argues macedonia is a part of greece may not even know
what the difference is. it's kinda obvious ukraine has had it's own crimean coast since
the soviet breakup.

No offense, but your comparison is not accurate and your understanding of Russia's / Russians' opinion of what is Russian Crimea is seriously misinformed.

no offense taken, because i used to speak the language and had russians in my house
and around me almost every day and have been there. i still recognize a lot of words
when i hear them but it takes me too long to remember what they mean and reply for
me to be able to hold a conversation. i have 2 brothers who speak it better. i can't tell
you how many times russians have told me about "krim" and you don't seem to have any
idea what the term means to them. i know exactly where they were talking about.
they were talking about vacation spots on the black sea, and not in the ukraine.
my understanding is first hand, not from wikipedia. my point is that what many
russians commonly refer to as "krim" was not part of the ukraine.

This is exactly why I suggested that this thread was going into Offal Topic territory. Whether or not you have been to Russia and hung out with Russians and you once understood some Russian, your understanding of the history of and Russian perspective on Crimea is misinformed and I am not interested in getting in a pissing contest over it.

dude, then turn around and stop pissing. i haven't said shit about you, yet.
i made a valid point about the common use of the term in russian, dinkus

You are confused. Russians know exactly what the Krim/Crimea is and where it is. Nobody is confusing it with Caucasus coast where Sochi is. There is no such thing as Russian Crimea or Ukranian Crimea. There is just Crimea. It was owned by Tatars before Russians conquered it in 18th century. Ukraine never owned it until 1954 when communists moved ownership from Russian Soviet Republic to Ukrainian Soviet Republic for easier administration. Nobody could even think at that time that those "republics" will become independent.
