Canelo v Khan may turn out to be significant; even if Khan loses - if he puts in a good strong showing he may well come out of the bout better regarded than when he went in.

The sentiment here is correct. How can we know a bout's significance until the performance and result?

Amir winning that fight would drastically change it's significance.
