Judge from Ortiz-Thompson fight to be investigated

Post by Like a Boss »

Two judges had it 50-43 for Ortiz.

The 3rd judge, Lloyd Scaife, had it 48-47 and he is to be investigated.

As an example of Scaife's handiwork, he scored the first round 10-9 for Ortiz, even though Thompson was knocked down. The other 2 judges scored it the more logical 10-8.

I remember before the fight Harold said he had never heard of 2 of the 3 judges. What could that judge have been thinking?? Wow! That is really out there. There were 3 knockdowns. Of course the last round I imagine is not scored. So two recorded knockdowns and it was 48-47?

Whoever paid off this moron is an idiot. You need 2 judges to fix a fight. Not one. One card doesn't matter. Especially when you know damn well a fight won't be remotely close. What is this amateur hour ?

This is one of those cases where I suspect incompetence rather than corruption. It looks like he had no clue knockdowns are scored 10-8. Also looking at his BoxRec history it seems like he judges very sporadically (87 bouts in something like 20 years) and that this was the highest profile bout he'd judged by a pretty fair margin.

Either that or he was legitimately paid off to make sure it was an SD/MD rather than a UD, and was trying to keep it as close as possible to accomplish that goal.

The guy has been judging fights for years. You think he doesn't know what a knockdown means?

100% corruption.

No. He also scored two rounds for Thompson. I want you to watch that fight and tell me where you see two rounds for Thompson. It is wayyyyy worse than what you just said. Are you related to this guy??

A guy gets investigated and hopefully gets his license revoked permanently for cheating in a situation where a fight didn't come close to going the distance.

Put this one in the Dumbest Crooks of All Time Folder ! :witzend:

The evidence is the score. He's either crooked or incompetent, the investigation will find out which.

He scored rounds 3 and 5 10-9 for Thompson, the other 3 10-9 for Ortiz.

understood, but it maybe in in people's best interest to let the investigation prove that don't you think?

He's being openly criticized for his poor scoring as far as I know. Judges know this criticism comes with the job. Some posters here have mentioned corruption (which hasn't been proven) which I guess he could bring a lawsuit against said posters for...after he's finished being investigated for corruption that is.

Silly crap gets said on message boards every day. I'm not sure why this thread is important enough to single out.

That doesn't really change anything. A random poster or two on a message board saying "100% corruption" will not likely damage a persons ability to work as much as the investigation needing to take place in the first place.

I'm glad the investigation is taking place and everyone who is associated with boxing should be too. I really hope your associate is found innocent of corruption, but these terrible scores need to be confronted or they will never stop.

Who cares about the corruption part? He does not know how to score a fight and he should have his license suspended or taken away.
