Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
Rafael posted a bunch of fights that are scheduled/likely to be scheduled for Showtime this summer/spring (note, not free PBC stuff):
April 9th: Joshua-Martin; Selby-Hunter
April 16th: Russell-Hyland; Pedraza-Smith
April 30th: Jack-Bute; Degale-Medina (mandatory for Degale; winners said to be unifying)
May TBA (the 21st?): Wilder-Povetkin; Lebedev-Ramirez
June 11th: Provo-John Molina; Andrade-Hatley
Looking likely for summer: Santa Cruz-Frampton
That's a very strong schedule in my opinion. Is the PBC model being abandoned? There have been rumors about low funding and this seems to be a notable shift of quality fights back to Showtime.

Very possible that the PBC isn't selling enough tickets and ad time to recoup what they're spending, so they're going back to Showtime since Showtime will actually pay them for their cards.

The Thurman/Porter card is on CBS.

Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
PBC is making a lot of changes and right now Showtime is just taking advantage of the opportunities being allowed by PBC, in reality Showtime cannot compete with PBC because Haymon is the one who has the vast majority of fighters and he will decide when they fight.crusader wrote:Rafael posted a bunch of fights that are scheduled/likely to be scheduled for Showtime this summer/spring (note, not free PBC stuff):

The Sponsors who invest in advertising time are willing to work with Haymon in his new model that he will be working soon to be able to still bring in quality fights but at different times than currently scheduled and targeting a different age genre.
I read some stuff on this a while back and it appeared PBC knew it had to make changes to get a wider audience so that's what they're targeting.

PBC is running out of money and the clock is ticking down on the phony Haymon. This is OK. To say it is strong is an overstatement.crusader wrote:Rafael posted a bunch of fights that are scheduled/likely to be scheduled for Showtime this summer/spring (note, not free PBC stuff):

Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
The initial list also had Porter-Thurman and Mares-Cuellar--I'd say that, along with the others, makes for a very strong lineup.
Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
But this one does not. You calling it very strong shows me where the barometer is for boxing fans these days. The expectations are so low that this can be called strong.crusader wrote:The initial list also had Porter-Thurman and Mares-Cuellar--I'd say that, along with the others, makes for a very strong lineup.
Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
I wrote 'very strong' when the list still had that card on it (arguably it's strongest card), but I didn't bother to change the rest of the post when I removed those fights. Regardless of the terms, I think it's still a good line up.
For me a bigger issue is what it suggests about the future of the PBC model....it seems in line with the rumors that things weren't going so well. That may not be such a bad thing if it leads to better fights, even if they're not FREEEEEEEEE.

Some really good fights there.
In the UK there's a strong shift now to pay per view or subscription. Hardly any free to air boxing.

Yep they've been forced to make better fights due to some embarrassing viewing figures, the double heavyweight world title event with Wilder vs Szpilka averaged only 500k!!!! But there's still a classic mismatch which always will be in favour of an American (Russell-Hyland).crusader wrote:I wrote 'very strong' when the list still had that card on it (arguably it's strongest card), but I didn't bother to change the rest of the post when I removed those fights. Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
With or without the Pbc ,Haymon still will be the most Powerful guy in boxing by far. He was able to get his roster of fighters Major exposure on various networks for 1 year and counting without spending 1 penny of his own Money. Plus he still collected his fees from all the shows he put on without taking 1 penny of risk on his part. That seems like Winning big time to me :)
Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
Really? Cause he is slowly going broke. Still be the most powerful man in boxing!!!scallum2015 wrote:With or without the Pbc ,Haymon still will be the most Powerful guy in boxing by far. How's Haymon phony and how is he running out of money when he is super rich and has the vast majority of decent fighters with names in this sport signed to him as their Manager?
Please explain or is this just stupid hate being spewed by you??
Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
You are talking about his personal wealth. I do not see him using that for this endeavor to be honest with you. I think when he runs out of the cash provided by Wells-Fargo he will split with a lot of the fighters he is managing. He bought up a lot of guys and then he will slice it way down and the rest will be free agents again. PBC did not get the ordinary fan and average fan involved. When PBC started do you know they were hoping that it would have the same effect that THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER did for MMA? The Ultimate Fighter captured the average fan's attention and imagination and blew the UFC up. Haymon does not even do interviews to pump himself or his brand. If you can't see that this brand is doomed for failure then I cannot help you but you will all on your own soon. That is why all these fights are on Showtime. Unless he gets another injection of cash or investors I think this is a failed venture.Undefeated49-0 wrote:Lancenix wrote:PBC is running out of money and the clock is ticking down on the phony Haymon. Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
Whether Haymon is losing his own wealth with the PBC product or his investors is not really the question in my opinion. The REAL question is how will this gigantic failure damage Haymon's image and ability to sign/maintain boxers. Haymon has been acquiring boxers left and right for years now promising each and every one of them that he was going to change the world of boxing and make all of them stars. Many boxers fell for it. Most of them, for that matter. So once the shut the lights off at PBC and lock the doors, will Haymon still be as respected and sought after?
My guess is that it will be like shooting fish in a barrel at Top Rank and Golden Boy. Boxers will jump off Haymon's sinking ship and want to disassociate themselves from the man as fast as possible. No one wants to be in association with losers or failures especially in the sport of boxing where image is almost everything. Maybe we'll finally be done with the post fight Haymon shout outs but most of all, maybe we can now start seeing great fights again without this ridiculous promoter cold war.

Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
The idea was always destined to fail, repeatedly over paying the likes of Broner and Garcia showed what we needed to know. Funnily the best thing PBC did they did on the cheap, and that was make 50-50 fights with international talent (Kameda vs Kono, Kameda vs McDonnell, Huck vs Glowacki) and that should have been done more often as those guys weren't taking 7figures out of the kitty and we're putting on damned good fights.

Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
how many fighters has he got that are struggling to get fights cos he isn't putting shows on? when was the last ESPN show?
Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
I think that reports of Haymon's / PBC's demise are premature. Ultimately, it may come to fruition, but he doesn't seem like the type who would not have anticipated bumps in the road or who is in the habit of quitting.
Re: Showtime spring/summer schedule (what about the PBC free model?)
Haymon may very well be okay, but what does it say about the PBC model when so many quality fights are going back to Showtime? Why is that happening?
Regardless, I'm liking this schedule. I'm all for time buy problems if it means more quality fights.
