Dream Heavyweight Tournament!

Post by Crease »

PRETEND:
If you had God's power and could go through time and pull out 8 heavyweights in any time period
(up to 2003, Lennox Lewis being the last champion).

And then take the 8 of them away to fight in a heavyweight boxing league where they have to fight each other twice and the points are as follows:

+3 Win by KO/referee stoppage
+1 Win by points
0 Draw
-1 lose on points
-3 lose by KO/referee stoppage...

WHO WOULD YOU INVITE TO THIS TOURNAMENT?
8 HEAVYWEIGHT BOXERS FROM ANY TIME PERIOD!

Note: You can only pick a boxer once and not pull him out've 2 different times...

I'm interested in how Ali would deal with mobile fighters with good skills and who would jab with him. Liston and Foreman were great fighters but they were made for him. Still great wins of course.

good choices ezzard,

i feel walcott would give ali fits beyond fits and would stand the best chance out of all of them. also walcott had a sneaky powerful fast left hook that ali was sucseptible too.

I agree. Walcott has the style and the punch to give Ali a lot of problems. I also think Johnson's defence and Holmes's jab would give Ali a very difficult night. All of them would be tricky for him which is why I picked them.

1. Muhammad Ali
2. Joe Louis
3. Larry Holmes
4. George Foreman
5. Rocky Marciano
6. Joe Frazier
7. Lennox Lewis
8. Mike Tyson

These are my top 8 all time heavies, with the exception of Tyson, who I rate 12th. But seriously though, for pure entertainment Mike Tyson just has to be in it!

Sincere apologies to: Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Sonny Liston, Evander Holyfield, Ezzard Charles, Gene Tunney and Floyd Patterson. These fighters all feature in my top 15, and could definitely beat some of the heavies who made it to my final 8.
