matty askin v simon barclay
matty askin v simon barclay
Matty boxed last night after the main event,on the undercard of the derry v terry bill.
matty started quickly and soon had barclay over with a hard over hand right.at the end of the first, matty, cut barclay, with a straight right hand.
it was more of the same in the second, and with the cut opening up,the ref had no option but to stop the fight.
matty now moves on and looks to fight for titles this year, whatever they may be.

Strange that this wasn't shown instead of the prospect v European journeyman that was shown at the beginning.

Shame for Barclay who comes from the Corby where i currently reside, seemed to initially have had a decent local following. ?Hope he can bounce back from this.

Thought this was a good trade fight, the one I was most interested in bar the main event last night. Thought it was way too early for Barclay to be honest. Backed Askin for the stoppage.
Ended up missing this fight, was on too late and I was all boxed out by the time the main event ended. Switched it off. Having to record the show repeat this morning to watch it later today!

Was this televised then?as I thought the show went off air once Flanagan/Mathews finished?tough for Barclay I heard it finished early, quite surprised but didn't realise it was a cut to Barclay.towards and upwards for Matty now.
Do you think Bennett might get a rematch or is that one done now...?

Re: matty askin v simon barclay
Bad handling of Barclay Askin was too experienced for him. Barclay is a talent though and can come again.
Re: matty askin v simon barclay
there was a mix up with the scheduling last night.hence the fight not being shown
matty, would be happy to take on Dickinson, mckenzie or any of the top 10 really.he just needs to be kept busy, which for one reason or another hasn't happened.
anyway hes with queensbury and boxing regular,so I think we will see the best of him this year.
I agree, barclay can come again,he was dropped heavy in the 1st round and the blood was pumping into his eye.tough night for the lad.

I saw a couple of Barclays early fights and as i know his manager too i was looking forward to seeing him do well.
Im sure he can come again though, he is capable of getting a british i reckon at some point down the line, its just maybe a bit early for that at the moment.

Barclay was just starting to get into it when it was stopped for me. 1st round he took a hammering but was fighting back in the 2nd.
Re: matty askin v simon barclay
He was blinking non stop from the knockdown to the finish of the fight.je caught matty with a couple of shots, but I wouldn't say he was getting into the fight.it was only going one way for me,an askin win.broomy7s wrote:Barclay was just starting to get into it when it was stopped for me. 1st round he took a hammering but was fighting back in the 2nd.

If Matty wants to stay busy and in need of a opponent get in touch with us and Chris Keane would be happy to fight him to help keep him busy til something bigger comes up for Matty, easy to make, can happen end of April if they want and gives him a option for another defence if he wants rather than be inactiveDAVE2005 wrote:there was a mix up with the scheduling last night.hence the fight not being shown

Re: matty askin v simon barclay
Yes, I agree that Barclay was getting back into it and landed 3 or decent shots which had asking back off just for a moment.
Was turning into a really good fight.
Whole production of the show on Saturday was terrible. pa and music absolutely shite and barely audible. Only managing 4 fights in first three hours. Sticking the butler fight on between between the quality middleweight fight and the main event. Ending up after midnight throwing fights on - were there any boxers not getting out?
Shame, because a really good crowd for a warren show (and paid too, not Comps) and some decent boxing.

Really rate askin. His McKenzie fight was a close one.
Hope he gets another British title fight this year.

Thanks mate, Matty is very good lad also, definitely would be a cracking fight, both can really punch so think it would be a crowd pleaser for sure while it lasted, I've msg Jason mcClorry today asking for it so hopefully can get the fight sorted mate. Keep up the good work you and mike are doing mate, all the best palDAVE2005 wrote:Boxingcutsman wrote:No worries mate, if you need a opponent for May me a shout Chris will be readyDAVE2005 wrote:

He was cut, bound to be blinking. Not saying he was in anyway winning the round but he was defo improving which might've made it interesting. The good thing for him is he can re-build and not lose confidence with the cut causing the stoppage.
