Another title shot for Ricky Burns?

It was a closish fight, but I thought Figeuroa deserved it cos of the point deductions. The cards were probably a tad wide - but no controversy.

Figureroa isn't all that though.

That referee needs to be struck off. Pulling a boxers arm off is so dangerous, it is a shame that neither smashed one of their shots into him.

It was more of a brawl than a boxing match, but it was entertaining. Burns was unwilling to back peddle against Figueroa who did look limited. I had him winning by 3.

As for Burns, a promising display, but unlikely to ever get back to Worle title elite.

Wow, Burns digs very deep in 12th. I have it even but with 2 point deduction and whole fight wrestling with the ref Burns will not get a nod I think. 114-114.

I had Burns a point up even after the deductions. I cant think of a clear quality punch Figueroa landed. It was similar in some ways to Brook Porter except Burns landed more than 4 times.

one of the many times when the referee was complaining at Burns for leaning on Fig, Fig grabbed Burns with both arms, spun him round 180 degrees and the ref said nothing. Crazy.

Burns done his fair share of dirty tricks in there tonight but certainly no more than his opponent who was leading with his head, ducking too low, pushing with his elbows. When both fighters were tied up they were still trying to let shots go. Either split them and let them start again or let them fight it out, dont go in picking one fighters hands out of the clinch whilst the other is still bombing away. Crazy.

I scored that a draw even taking into account the unfair point deductions. The rounds Burns won in my eyes were won by clean punching and ocassionally boxing. The only rounds Fig won were won by leaning, grabbing and hassling. The exact things Burns wasnt being allowed to do.

Either way, Burns was a credit to himself in there tonight.

you can throw the "many people thought he won it" card out all you want... but many people also agree with liamlion and i and think that he lost it because he kept holding so what does that even prove to say many people thought this or that?

you can't state someone is wrong because they don't agree with your opinion, you had no part at all in scoring the fight (thank god) and had no power in the decision so you are just another man with an opinion, nobody is right or wrong, the fight was scored how it was, it is what it is, and rightfully so burns lost

I did say Fig won yes, but I certainly felt it was a close fight, with some of the rounds seemingly able to go one way or another.

Figueroa's considerable weight advantage made a huge difference. I scored it for him, but Ricky boxed very well, it had been years since I'd seen his jab working as well as that. I also thought Ricky had Figueroa in trouble in the twelfth, his lack of pop meant he couldn't put him away.

Never really understand the Burns hate - I appreciate as a huge fan I'm probably biased the other way, but he's easy to like and made the absolute most of what he's got. He has his limitations, but he has some good wins over world level guys. He can look ragged at times, but then he can also box beautifully other times.

Really hope he has a couple of big nights in him, even if it is for the fake belt.
