People who vote for Deontay Wilder

Post by conty22 »

So before purse bid Wilder was ducking Povetkin for year and Povetkin was going to KO him easy. What now? People vote for Deontay Wilder.

Seems like Wilder's haters lost confidence and they will find another hero after Wilder ko's this mofo . They will set new goals for Wilder and they will call Povetkin a small one dimensional bum !

They will complain about Wilder ducking Ortiz. Tell me who does not duck Ortiz? Tyson Fury even did not mention his name.

Did this really need it's own thread? Did you not think you got your point across in the poll thread?

What do you expect? A little while ago people wanted to see Hughie Fury vs Anthony Joshua, now people would prefere to see Tyson Fury. Wilder allways said he had time in his advantage he said. Last year Povetkin had the odds, nowadays Wilder. At some point Mike Tyson would have dominated Lewis as well, at the end of his carreer he didn't, how often do you see an old and a young boxer fight twice with the one winning first and the other winning the second time?

I'm sorry, is Wilder going to fight Shannon Briggs (who had quite a serious chance against him just a few years ago actually) in 2019?

Wlad intentionally lost to Fury in a desperate last ditch plea to get Briggs off of his back.

There's a reason Wilder ducked him every single time, making all kind of excuses.

Briggs is unworthy of a world title fight and has been for about a decade. It's not ducking when the guy is unworthy.

Briggs had some talent in his 20s and was a reasonably dangerous opponent when he fought Lennox Lewis. Briggs of today is old, slow, overmuscled and has atrocious stamina largely due to his athsma.

Oh, but Molina and Duhaupas and Szpilka are real world titlefight material? Lol
Briggs would have at least been a bigger risk compared to the other three. I won't even say he's a better fighter, but I think Briggs had a bigger chance of winning against Wilder at the time as either of these three have/had.

No, none of Molina, Duhaupas and Szpilka were worthy of a title shot, although Szpilka was borderline.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree there that Briggs would have been a bigger risk to Deontay - I would favour all three against Briggs at the moment, although perhaps not Molina before his good showing in the Wilder fight. Even at his advanced age, Briggs still has good power, but he would be far less likely to land punches on Wilder than the other three due to his dismal punch output. I'm just sick of people using the term 'ducking' every time a fighter turns down a fight, especially when it's against an unworthy challenger like Briggs.

It's more then just turning down a fight in Povetkin's case. The fight made sense, the money was fair, they had to fight sooner or later anyway and Wilder has ducked all good boxers during his entire carreer. That's ducking. AJ has been challenged by pretty much all top contenders, somehow nobody says he's ducking, why? Because he continually fights the expected level of opponends. Even when Wilder has less then 10 fights on his resume people already said he has to step up.

I agree Wilder has been avoiding Povetkin in favour of fighting easier opponents until now - I'm fine with calling that ducking. I've generally been critical of the way his career has been managed.

AJ and Parker have fought a good level of opposition for their level of experience, and now both are stepping up at the right time - although it's possible Takam is too big of a step up for Parker, we'll have to wait and see about that.
