Spence jnr & GGG
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
And all of them have better money to make fighting others, how easy was that to answer, you obviously don't know how boxing works, on top of that throw in some other obstacles such as networks and promotors who won't work together and some of those fights are a near impossibility
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
Ward is at 175 man. They are way too far apart. Ward better worry about his upcoming bout.diddy wrote:Spence is absolutely the real deal. But so is GGG. As long as he stays away from Ward he won't lose until he's old and broken down.

Thurman for sure. Also rumored Garcia. But one time for sure.Pureist wrote:Who has avoided spence?Lancenix wrote:I think these are the two most avoided guys in all of boxing. Makes me chuckle when people think the fighters are turning down the fight. Pacquiao will fight floyd but is scared of spence??diddy wrote:Names?

Spence doesnt bring enough ££££ to the table when he does the PROMOTERS will talk. Does he beat them, quite possibly, are they scared, no chance.
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
Agree, but GGG simply has nobody to beat, and has beaten nobody.Lancenix wrote:Um none of it is his fault. He will fight any man in the world at 160. Im a big fan, but can put my hand on my heart and say we'll never know how good he is / was / couldve been.
Who'll remember Martin Murray, David Lemieux or Matt Macklin in 20 years time?
GGG needs to almost move to 175 to create the legacy he deserves

There is no credible active opponent from 160 down.
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
175? No way his frame is not that big. He can stay at 160. His legacy will be that all the fighters in the tough inner city gyms of the USA all ran from him and so did the tough guy from Puerto Rico and the cowardly Mexican too. What can be better than punking an entire continent?Wales wrote:Agree, but GGG simply has nobody to beat, and has beaten nobody.Lancenix wrote:Um none of it is his fault. Re: Spence jnr & GGG
If he stays 160 he wont have a legacy.
Im not saying he can dust off, or should do 175, but who can he fight at 160, or being honest 168, that means anything?
168 wins v De Gale and Abraham be "ok". Hardly greats are they.
Lets be honest - GGG has two options - stay at 160 and dominate a crap division beating average 160 fighters and the best 154s moving up. Or, go balls to the wall at 34 and clean up 168lbs in 2 fights (De Gale and Abraham) then go shit or bust at 175. Hopkins jumped 160-175 at 41... He fought a 6ft 2 Antonio Tarver. GGG is 5ft 10... Kovalev is 6ft, Stevenson 5ft 11....
At 160 whats he got as a legacy? What is he gonna earn? One of most exciting fighters of our generation getting million a fight with his opponent coming in as glorified knockover job getting 500k!?

Re: Spence jnr & GGG
We won't see GGG in a losable fight until he's old and shot. 160 sucks. Wake me when he goes to 168 and fights DeGale or Andre Dirrell. That's about all there is for him in terms of competitive fights between 160-168.

Direll and De Gale wont do much. Direll lost to jack amd had nightmare with bika twice. De Gale only beat direll cos of knockdowns. Nothing to trouble GGG at 168 mate

Stay at 160 GGG. It is not your fault North America is full of cowards.diddy wrote:We won't see GGG in a losable fight until he's old and shot. 160 sucks. To become great he needs to beat great fighters. Whos he got Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders, Andy Lee.... Come on, who'll remember them in 10 years time.
Look at Duran. Went up to fight the best, gave up size and strength.
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
What does a weight class have to do with height ? By the way, if it did, Hopkins is 3 inches taller than Golovkin.Wales wrote:... then go poo or bust at 175. Hopkins jumped 160-175 at 41... He fought a 6ft 2 Antonio Tarver. GGG is 5ft 10... Kovalev is 6ft, Stevenson 5ft 11....
Hopkins was killing himself to make 160 and he didn't want to fight at his natural weight, 168, because of Ward, so he moved to 175.
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
What does Weight class have to do with height, not much, although it does help if youre same height or there about as your opponent and not giving up 6" in height and 6" in reach. Kovalev and Ward have neither over GGG so both are far more beatable than if he was going up 2 weights to fight a world class 6ft 4 light heavy with 82" reach.
Interesting that Hopkins skipped his natural weight, 168, to avoid Ward. Especially Hopkins went from 160-175 in 2005 when Ward was a 5 fight novice. I always though Hopkins made the leap to fight Tarver, who'd just beaten Jones jnr and was very beatable. Not to avoid a 5 fight novice in Ward?

Goes both ways champ.ikorolev wrote:It is natural. People are rooting for their likes. With RJJ, Hopkins and Mayweather out of the picture and Ward likely retiring or getting a brutal beating, all hopes are with Crawford, Spence and a few others. Yes, there is certainly hypocrisy present.
Europeans are the same.
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
You are right. 168 had Calzaghe and rising Kessler at the time. It was not an exciting division with good money.Wales wrote:Hopkins went from 160-175 in 2005 when Ward was a 5 fight novice. You say that, but "europeans" boil down to germany and UK.kidbazooka1 wrote:Goes both ways champ.ikorolev wrote:It is natural. People are rooting for their likes. Take away Fury and Joshua at HW - even there many fans have their reservations whether either are the best, and europe has very little to confidently shout about.
Froch was box office but had been defeated. Khan was never really the next euro hope. Even the die hard fan can see Brook has proved nothing in his division.
Europeans dont class GGG as one of their own, Lomachenko the same.
In reality, as far as I can see, there is no next big thing coming out of Europe.
We're waiting for next Calzaghe. Sad thing is, closest we've had thus far is connor mcgreggor in UFC. Shame Frampton or Quigg didnt win convincingly.

Blind hope with Joshua aside, amd we've seen flaws already, im struggling to see the next great european hope that people are buying intoikorolev wrote:Yes, they are. Re: Spence jnr & GGG
Personally think people need to stop passing Degale off like a nobody, or should I say like an average fighter, 168 is something completely different to GGG and I don't honestly think he'll have the same dominating power at that weight. Degale just seems to be getting better and better but is still under the radar for some reason, genuinely think if GGG moves up then there'll be a shock to a lot of people, especially the casuals who have just seen lil G's highlight reel. Although I do feel for GGG, he has the talent to create a real legacy for himself but the supposed best in the division (catchweight Canelo), won't entertain it. As for Spence Jr. well we can all see he's got talent and he's still young, but knowing what the boxing world is like (unfortunately), we may not see him face GGG, as lil' G is nearly 34. More than likely we'll see Spence Jr's team keep him away from that fight until GGG is past it. As with most prospects they're either wrapped in cotton wool, Anthony Joshua (big fan), or big name opponents just see high risk but not much of a gain. Spence Jr. is young and up and coming and actually strikes me as the kind of guy who will fight anybody, anywhere (rare for American fighters of late), but unfortunately no big name wants any of that because he's fairly low gain (currently) but also a massive risk. Whereas GGG is established as the name to beat in the division so nobody wants any of that, the Canelo team needs to put faith in their fighter and let him fight, that should be THE fight at this weight (if we forget about Caneloweight). Btw I know this thread wasn't started as a Spence Jr. vs GGG thread, not trying to start all that.

Re: Spence jnr & GGG
Andre Ward would have fought him no doubt....he would get fights at 168. That's what greats do especially when there is nobody to fight. People like to dog Floyd for not fighting ggg when he's moved up from 126 to 154. RJJ/Toney went from 160 to heavy. BHop 160 to 175. Pacman from who friggin knows to 147. There's some of the greats n the past 20 yrs. Is it really too much to ask for a 34 yr old to move up when it's obvious he can't get any fights.Lancenix wrote:Talk to people in North America because no one on the continent wants to fight him. Also I believe there's a champ by the name of Saunders that's not American and wants no part so it's more than America.
Re: Spence jnr & GGG
Lara will fight GGG, and has a more well known name than the majority of GGG's opponents. When he gets back and really active, I think Andrade would be an interesting fight also.
