The Moloney Twins

Post by Like a Boss »

Andrew Moloney won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He is now undefeated after 4 fights in the pro ranks. Having won 2 by KO.

Twin brother Jason is also undefeated after 4 fights in the pro ranks. Having won all 4 by KO.

They have both been nursed into the pro ranks as one would have expected.

But how far can these two go?

I agree they have potential. But I thought Damien Hooper would probably tear up the pros like he did the amateurs and that hasn't worked out too well.

At least the Moloney's seem to have their heads screwed on. Which is more than can be said for the wayward Hooper.

I would put Andrew Moloney down to at least win an Aussie title. Not so sure about Jason.

Hope they both go on to greatness.

JASON MOLONEY RECAPS GABISAY WIN, FIRST CAREER KNOCKDOWN

http://www.aus-boxing.com/2015/08/27/ja ... knockdown/

In a post-fight interview with Aus-Boxing, Moloney (now 4-0, 4 KOs) talks about the unique experience of being floored and how he responded to it in the heat of the moment.

“I was pretty happy with the fight,” said Moloney. “I was after a good test and that’s exactly what I got,”

“I got put down for the first time in my career in the second round, I was careless and walked into a big shot,”

“When he hit me and I went down – I was a little dizzy – but I just kept my cool. I haven’t been there before but it was sort of what I expected.”

“I got up, I composed myself and came to my senses pretty quick,”

“From then onwards, I just played careful – and then believe me – I was fine. I got back on the front foot and finished the round strong,”

Under the guidance of head trainer Brian Butler from East End Boxing, Moloney was urged to keep his cool and it was reflected in his performance as he rallied to force a stoppage in the fifth round.

“My corner just reminded me to pay the guy a bit of respect and play it a bit more careful,” he continued. “I mean, I fell short with the right hand and walked straight into one.”

Let's hope their amateur pedigree carrries over to success in the pro ranks.

Both Moloneys are now WBA Oceania titlists following wins last night.

Jason's fight against Junior Bajawa ended in the 4th round after some kerfuffle with Bajawa's boots threatened to turn the fight into a farce.

Andrew's fight against Ryohei Takahashi went the distance.

The boys are being worked along nicely so far. Unfortunately they struggle to get quality sparring here which has forced them to travel overseas for it. Luckily in the lead-up to their fights last night they had Ib Balla also heading into a fight and were able to spar with him.
