I'm sure I saw an interview or something when GSP pretty much admitted that he was fortunate against Hendricks and that he realised he might have been past his prime. Fighters are often the last to accept that their best days are gone, surely better to stay away when you have those doubts.

GSP had a great career. He was right about the PED's in the fight game and he got out on top. One of the best ever I do not see why he would want to come back. Dana has said no chance. I did see that he is good friends with Artur Beterbiev and has been in the gym with him.

Talking about hanging with Jon- i'll tell you something i'd quite like to see although it's unlikely to happen. I'd like to see Weidman get some training in with Jones in prep for Rockhold. I know that Rockhold and Cormier are helping each other out for prep for the former two which makes complete sense with them being teammates at AKA. I think Weidman suffers to some extent in the same way that McGregor does- they both don't have the best training partners whereas the teams at AKA and Jackson-winklejohn are very strong and you have a lot of very good training partners. Just my take on it though.Impractical Poster wrote:Sounds like Conor's been hanging with Jon.ElJefe wrote:I'm sure I saw an interview or something when GSP pretty much admitted that he was fortunate against Hendricks and that he realised he might have been past his prime. Yeah did you see them kind of team up at the unstoppable press conference? Yeah I saw that. It would be good to see that translate to some training time spent together. Then again, Weidman could go full heel by the end of camp and be out sniffing coke off of hookers titsdanamba7 wrote:Yeah did you see them kind of team up at the unstoppable press conference? Re: MMA thread?
Haha true. However it might not make for his best performance in a return against Rockhold though lol. One thing I would say though is that Weidman always looks depressed as hell to me when he's got his kids around him in the embedded shows which is a little sad. He gives off the vibe to some extent that he wishes he didnt have kids. Probably reading too much into that though.danamba7 wrote:Yeah why not. Actually really looking forward to this fight even though the 1st fight was pretty one sided in the end. Interesting to see what Weidman can produce now he knows just how could Rockhold is. Surely he'll never attempt a half-hearted wheel kick ever again in his life!

Re: MMA thread?
I don't really get what the UFC is doing with the WW division. Lawler/Thompson seemed like such an obvious fight to make, but they didn't make it. Unless GSP is coming back (which I strongly doubt) I don't know what they're planning on doing with Lawler's next defense.

I'm not sure, probably. The story didn't look believable at all to be honest, just found it funny.Lancenix wrote:Wouldn't he have failed a drug test?? Banging hookers?? You'd think whoever took it would:
1) get a decent picture, maybe with some coke in it
and 2) sell his story for thousands, rather than put it on an internet message board
Also saw people suggest that it could have been from the pool party that was shown on TUF. As I said, I fully expect it to be complete BS, just made me laugh.

Re: MMA thread?
thanks for the reply and taking the time to respond, I think you are right in some respects that Conor does enjoy massive advantages over FW for sure and really his proper weight should be LW right now and he is still big there, however he did look small at the side of Diaz and it was along way to go up whether they weighed the same on fite night or not, I mean as a boxing fan its a bit like GGG going up to Andre ward right now...that's a big ask...is all...and you have to admire the balsl of the man to do so I feel. He just believed in himself a bit too much, who knows perhaps this will be the making of the man...time will tell.Deadendgeneration wrote:The weight being 170 not making a difference is the point here. Diaz isn't a WW and Connor was set to fight at LW anyway. There was likely very little difference between their weights in the cage. Sure Diaz is taller/longer than Connor but he had that advantage over most lightweights. He also generally lacks in terms of physical strength compared to most lightweights. Being taller and having a longer reach does not equate to being bigger. Rangier for sure but not bigger. Would you say McGregor is bigger (or at least as big as) than any lightweight champion in UFC history? He's as tall as all except Pettis (wiki) or within an inch of any (Sherdog) and looked taller that RDA when they faced off. On top of that he has at least 2 inches of reach on all of them.J wrote:Impractical Poster wrote: I'm not saying he won't fight at WW again, but can you share a link stating that Nate will be fighting Lawler for the title? I've read where they have been thinking about it, but have not seen where it has been made.
Also, Silva fought heavier guys while he was MW champion when he would move up to LHW, than Conor did fighting Nate. Not to mention, successfully. Conor and Nate were basically the same weight when they fought. Conor has fought at the weight he fought at several times already against guys the same weight as Nate. This is not uncharted territory for him. It was technically a WW bout between two LWs.
All this talk about weight, but Conor really hasn't fought a fighter who has outweighed him by any significant margin. On the other hand, he has outweighed many of his FW opponents by pretty significant margins.
come on man, Nate was a much bigger guy, longer taller more reach..it was this not weight that turned the tide in round 2, that and his superior ground game.
as for people cutting weight part of the game dude. get over it.
People if they can cut the weight will do it til one day it gets too much and the advantages they had simply end up being the thing that causes them to gas and run out of steam in the ring and most likely defeat...I would say beware fighting at FW these days Mr Mac...LW is where you probably need to be...as for sizes and dimensions we are all very different in our builds, height how we carry weight how we age and how genetically we are able to either remain a similar weight or not...so all I can do is speak as I see it mate

Re: MMA thread?
Very good post. And I don't really disagree with anything you said perhaps apart from the GGG/Ward comparison as they're about 10 pounds apart on fight night. I was going to suggest despite the fact that he holds a middleweight trinket, Canelo/GGG seems a bit more apt. They're pretty similar weight come fight night, Canelo is shorter and holds a big weight advantage over everyone at his current weight. However that doesn't seem a great example as apparently Canelo has a 1/2-1 inch reach advantage. That's very surprising for me as GGG has a miles better jab.J wrote:thanks for the reply and taking the time to respond, I think you are right in some respects that Conor does enjoy massive advantages over FW for sure and really his proper weight should be LW right now and he is still big there, however he did look small at the side of Diaz and it was along way to go up whether they weighed the same on fite night or not, I mean as a boxing fan its a bit like GGG going up to Andre ward right now...that's a big ask...is all...and you have to admire the balsl of the man to do so I feel. Anyway analogies aside that was a well thought out and mature post.
I'll check the odds in his next fight if it's at FW as I think he gained a bit of bulk for the Diaz fight and the cut back down is going to be very hard on him.

Even at LW, I'd say Conor is on the bigger side of most of the division.
BTW, you all hear that Thiago Alves plans on fighting at 155 now...
IIRC, he was coming into his WW bouts at about 200.

Good lord. I always thought Alves was one of the bigger WWs, but if Gleison Tibau can regularly make 155, I guess Alves can too.
