Adrian Granat

Post by punchoutsb »

Swedish heavy prospect Adrian Granat won yesterday in France, stopping tough journeyman Evgeny Orlov in 2 rounds. Orlov is getting on in age, but he is almost 6'10, and pretty durable. Only one opponent stopped Orlov faster, and he's been in with some bangers. It's also worth mentioning that Orlov is a little "better" and more experienced than his boxrec record indicates; he took second in the Bigger's Better 2 tournament, and won Bigger's Better 11.

Granat is a hair under 6'8, a decorated Swedish amateur champion. My only gripe with him thus far is that his weight has shot up about 30 pounds since he turned pro. He weighed in about 259 for Orlov, his lowest of his last four fights. He really should be weighing about 240.

He's out again in less than a month against Samir Kurtagic, another durable journeyman who is 6'7. Kurtagic has no signature win, but he's never been down and dropped Dimitrenko in a losing effort.

Good to see Granat staying active, and he's targeting tall, durable fighters. I've seen half of his pro fights and followed him as closely as I could as an amateur. I like him, he's got some talent and power. Wish his hands were a little faster. Chin seems good from what I've seen so far, but there's still question marks there.

He also has wins over some decently named (but shot to pieces) journeymen in Williams, Airich, Wilson, and Sprott; he got all of them out inside 3 rounds. It seems like they really want to push him this year. He's one to keep an eye on!

Granat back up to 264 for Kurtagic :shame:

Samir has never been stopped, so we will either get to see if Granat's power is real or how his stamina and work rate is.

His next opponend must have quite a chin indeed, by watching his list of opponends and 0 KO loses.

i also feel Granat is very underestimated .. he's up there on par with Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker as the best prospects

Granat won by 6th round TKO, Kurtagic's corner threw in the towel. I don't know if there were any knockdowns, but that's an impressive victory for The Pike.

:TU: do you know if there were any knockdowns? Kurtagic still looked pretty solid (though beaten) when the towel came in.

Granat will be out again in March against his best opponent to date: Alexander Dimitrenko.

He looked impressive his last time out stopping Franz Rill who was able to extend Helenius the distance. He's also looked in better shape the last two times I've seen him, coming in below 250 pounds.

Did he really look good? I notice he was losing on all the cards, though he did finish things in the first half.

The stoppage was impressive, though he hadn't really gotten started up til that point. Rill is a big intimidating (looking) slugger with a pretty good chin. He pressed the action but Granat stuck with his game plan. This cost him some early rounds but I was impressed that he didn't get drawn into a slugfest.

I believe Dinu was injured though I don't know that for a fact.

Sounds like Dinu opted out as his team arranged to face Tronche instead whilst Granat's team had to look for an opponent for a little while before settling with Dimitrenko.

Dimtrenko is a bigger name.

The last Swedish heavyweight that got me all excited was Anders Eklund so forgive me if I reserve judgement on Granat (and Wallin) just for the moment.

Too bad Granat/Dinu fell through. I have to wonder who would've won.
