If I'd still live there and could afford it, my favorite neighborhood in London would be Primrose Hill, which falls into your boundaries. But right thereafter come Highgate/Hampstead/Tufnell Park - I just love Hampstead Heath. Btw, while I lived in Camden it was right at the border to Kentish Town, and this is quite nice too, at least east of Kentish Town Road.

Hard to argue with. There was a guy working at Hinkley Point Power Station just outside Bridgwater and one night he asked a couple of local guys where the chippie was. They picked up on his Northern accent and thought it would be 'fun' to throw him through the window of the shop they were standing outside.
There are some very insular idiots around.

Go and sit in a Glasgow pub with an English accent, a Swansea pub with a Cardiff accent, a Liverpool pub in a Man Utd shirt, a Portsmouth pub in a Southampton shirt…..

I'm not saying the problem is confined to the southwest, many parts of the UK have similiar problems.

However, unlike many other parts of the world, the southwestern counties have been subject to less change than the rest of the country.

The very fact that they have a word for outsiders 'grokles' (spelling?) says a lot about the mentality.

My cousin moved down to Devon about a year or so ago, and he said most of the people in the village where he lives (near Salcombe) have never set foot outside the UK, and many of them have never even been to London. He also said that it took many months before people would talk to him there, though that may be because he is a loon.

as someone who gre up in devon and now resides in London I have seen life on both side sof the fence, Devon is lovely the pace of life is wonderful, the countryside is to die for (same goes for dorset somerset and cornwall). However the fact they call people Grockles, emmits or other is more down to the influx of holidaymakers, that flood during summer months.

Now yes these poeple bring business nd help the economy of the afroresaid coutnies but the resentment comes form the fact that some of these people abuse the natural resources, spread litter everwhere in seaside towns often get involved in toruble or if older insist on driving down the promeoade at 3 miles an hour not looking where they are going while coo-ing gently "oooh look the sea"

Fact is most towns compared to London will appear insular and small complicated due to the size and the fact they probably are in comparison.

London however on the up side is far more vibrant, culturally aware and with more things to do.

As someone who has visited Devon for holidays about 16 times I can confirm the place is class!!

Good race courses, nice beaches, weather tends to be good, best pub food in the world at the Hare and Hounds in Kingskerswell

I don't think London is unfriendly, it's just that because it's so packed everywhere you go, people can appear standoffish at first. Obviously if you go to some uberswanky bar full of beard stroking fuckers who think they are too cool for school, who practice being effette and aloof, then you are going to make tonnes of new friends, but not everywhere is like that.

I'll admit that it's easier to get chatting to people outside of london, but I chat to anyone and everyone on the average night out so not everyone in London is a cold unfeeling bastard.
