Parker's management: "We have chased Briggs for a year"

Post by Redback Rasta »

Joseph Parker's promoter Dean Lonergan of Duco claims he made an offer to Shannon Briggs and has been trying to arrange a fight with Briggs for over a year. Lonergan believes the American is 'running' from Parker.

Briggs is currently in England delivery fight invitations to David Haye, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and God knows who else.

If Duco told me the sun was out, I would still have to go outside and check.

Lonergan never seems to be short of something to say. But as a promoter one of his roles is to get his fighters exposure and he manages to do that on a consistent basis.

Yeah talks it up, throws around names like Joshua and Fury, then delivers Martz and Bergman.

Absolutely pointless fight. You demolish Briggs and everyone says you beat a faded 45yo former champion. You struggle with Briggs and everyone says the same thing except you struggled with him. You loose to him then :o

All the same reasons Briggs is struggling himself to secure a big name. Theres nothing really in it for them, Briggs needs to beat a legit Top 20 guy to get taken seriously and we all know Briggs is angling for a pay-day so wont risk that against a Top 20 guy he wont get paid ALOT to fight. Which is why he's out actively promoting himself in the UK.

James Toney been calling Briggs out, Briggs has been avoiding that as even the current James Toney has enough left to beat him

Fighting Briggs would bring Parker more kudos than fighting Martz and Bergman.

Like a Boss. Internationally yes it might given Briggs name, HAD he fought Briggs before fighting Martz and Bergman. Fighting Briggs right now or at any time in the future from here on out makes no sense. Like I said before how does beating a 45yo badly faded former champ earn him ANY kudos now unless Briggs manages to beat a genuine Top 20 guy next fight and earns himself the fight. Every other heavyweight currently in JP's position don;t have Briggs on there radar. Sure hes a great self promoter and would help ticket sales etc but thats about it right now.

Lonergan says he has been chasing Briggs for 12 months. I agree fighting him next isn't a great idea. But if we can take Lonergan at his word, they intended to fight Briggs much earlier on. That is prior to Martz and Bergman.
