Hi Tommy not seen you post for a while, hope you're OK. Starie was a good puncher and pretty arkward, Francis used to knock a few out until Calzaghe got his hands on him. Who was your mate? Didn't you box Shaun Gray in a junior bout?
Don't know if anyone remembers Michael gibbons or Sean grant ? boxed em both in ams and felt sure both would make the grade as pros, sean became a decent journeyman and Michael disappeared after 5 fights so you never can tell can you ?

Wasn't Gibbons from Newcastle or Sunderland? I remember he boxed for England a few times and was a powerful fighter.

Hello I'm not to bad thanks, I have a catch up on here daily, but don't post as much.. The chaps name is Andy Gray, boxed for the Kingfisher club in Great Yarmouth(had a few pro fights)... No I never boxed Shaun Gray ( he'd have killed me) but witnessed him destroy many a quality schoolboy/junior..

I remember your mate, he was a good fighter, he did really well regionallyn for 3 or 4 seasons.
Shaun Gray did go on a run of destruction, the only one who could give him a scrap was Samuel Boreham and in their 3rd bout Shaun knocked him cold.

I think he won the Eastern Counties 4 times, il never forget the first time, Lee Woolcock(Canvey) was the hot favourite to win being the defending ABA champion, but he lost in the Semi's in the afternoon & Andy beat the man who beat the man in the final that night, the joy didn't last 2 weeks later he was sparked by Francis..Andys brother Marty Duke had quite a few pro fights..
I remember Sam Boreham he knocked out a lad from the club in the quarter final of the schoolboys one year, but Shaun Gray what a machine
I used to read about Marty Duke in Boxing News, he'd box anyone. I contacted one of Shauns' sisters and she said he'd gotten bored with boxing as he was so naturally gifted, he didn't have to work as hard as other people did - he didn't find it challenging.

Mike Oliver From The U.S. Went to Heartpool to Box Isaac Ward (Commonwealth Super Bantamweight Title) but because i had boxed 2 days Previous the in Denmark the ABA wouldn't let me but i did box him as a Pro. Sure there is a Few more (maybe i shouldn't of had that last fight , Need to get out my Medical Card and have a look through.
Who won between you and John-Boy? He seemed a right handful in the pro bouts I saw him in. Tall, lanky and with quite a dig.
How many am bouts did you have in the end?
I Beat him really good fight gave him a standing count in the 2nd round. I won 1st 33 ending up having 61 as a Am. Still looking for the Medical Card
John is Nice fella, his father was a great trainer. Do you know what there up too now?

I boxed Sean in my 1st Pro fight, a tough man.
I remember coming back from a box cup (Adey Lewis was out there am all) and Reading that Hatton had got beat out in Ireland by Francis Barret, we was shocked at the time Hatton was on fire (like most of his career)

Yes he was, boxed him in the northern counties final and got the decision although we had about 4 standing counts each

He was at a show at Henry Whartons gym last year and had his son down a few rimes so must have been stopping in the York area.
None. I almost sparred Akinwande and James Cook when I visited the gym they were, but it didn't come off. Probably wise, as I would have taken a pounding.
