Bully boy Roy Jones knocks novice out in his 1st pro fight

Not sure how this was allowed to happen. The opponent had 8 MMA fights, 5 wins but this was his first boxing match. He looks like a 5 fight novice amateur at best.

I thought it would be a light hearted exhibition style fight where Jones just uses his boxing skills to out point Phillips....but no.... He badly hurts the guy end of round one than brutally KOs the poor guy end of round 2....

I have a much lower opinion of Jones now - this guy had no chance of even hurting him let alone winning.....hope Jones fights on now and gets brutalised

Terrible.

Pretty pathetic that Roy now gets his ego boost this way.

Farce, everyone involved should be ashamed :shame:

On another note, Jones is looking really old lately, face is a haggard, man b**bs, thick waist, does he even train anymore?

Wow, I can't believe the fall from grace he has had was always one of my favourite fighters whatever people thought of his proposed fight with Tony Moran his actions of not showing up left the promoter and Moran considerably out of pocket after a lot of work they put in now to see him beating up a "fan" starting to actually dislike him!

Yeah, it's pretty disgraceful. Lost a lot of respect for Roy.

Seriously, has jones run out of cash or something? Has he got 5 ex wives he's paying off? Whats the deal with him fighting on like this? He cant be fighting because he loves the sport, there has to be a reason why hes making a few dollars a fight.

I think it's both money and the fact he can't bear not to be in the limelight. It's a pretty desperate end to a career.

I feel much the same. I was a massive fan of him growing up but the drug allegations and now this nonsense has made me look at him in a different way.

It's a little tragic. But I guess Jones is obsessed with the limelight.... However knocking out a raw novice plus the knowledge that he's failed a drug test and has no doubt extensively used PEDs makes him a wrong un. I'm now glad when he gets his clock cleaned again

Can't see the RJJ farce stopping anytime soon.

He's a accident waiting to happen. Either him being hurt or him hurting someone else.

Anyone involved in the most recent promotion must be ashamed.

Doing what he done to a novice in sparring is pretty piss poor never mind infront of all the cameras. At the end the commentator said something like 'the 100grand is safe... For now'. Is this battering of the public going to be a regular thing or am I reading too much in to it? Surely the condemnation he'll be recieving after that bollux last night would make him think again if he had any ideas?

Kovalev should make a bid.

Me too - he deserves a battering after that.

This type of thing really does no favours to the sport either. It's a freak show, and a dangerous one.

Yeah and I'm not sure it this was an officially sanctioned fight, but with no headguard, 3 minute rounds it might as well be. Who let it happen? Will Jones get a suspension for fighting unlicensed if he did? If it was officially sanctioned, the commission should be hammered. Very odd occasion and frankly unacceptable when health / lives are on the line....

It's not been added to Jones record on Boxrec and I can't find a listing for Phillips.

Trouble is, in the U.S there are some almost non-existent commissions, where they will allow virtually anything to transpire.

There's nothing illegal about it, and I doubt Roy gives a toss about having his licence to fight professionally revoked, given that he's beating up complete novices.

According to the guardian it was official sanctioned by the Arizona Boxing Commission. They must be really proud of themselves.

I understand what people is saying that why is Jones fighting etc etc But i don't see a Problem what so ever with this!! He would of done it to Jones if he could of, what your in the ring fighting someone, i don't care who he is what record he's got, he's in there wanting to knock you out SO he's going to get knocked out if i get the chance.. Far from Bullying very far YES the fella shouldn't of been in there in the 1st place but thats NOT Jones fault...

Jones was responsible for setting up the event, and that's the problem. If he'd arranged an exhibition bout that's one thing, but to arrange a fight with a complete novice, and treat it as a proper fight is extremely dangerous.

Are you serious? A guy that has no hope of winning? Despite Jones' loss in chin and form there is no way this guy could win....

So you have no problem with an ex world champion knocking out a guy having their first pro fight?
