Begging Junkie or menacing (bit of both really) he's was still a pretty 'sad case' as you said earlier. Has to be said though it's better than his other method of getting a free drink; this basically involved Sykes spitting into someone's drink, then awaiting their response:

1. They sensibly capitulated at surrendered the drink - Sykes get a free drink and he's humiliated someone.

2. The person objects - Sykes gets to hit someone, THEN gets a free drink.

Sykes wins both ways ... usually anyway I know this plan backfired on one occasion when a gang of young rugby players came to the aid of some bloke who's had his drink polluted and gave Sykes a kicking.

Absolute wanker eh :verysad:

There was a guy I knew very briefly when I was a teenager, he used to spit on the floor of a pub and when someone stood on it he done them in. I seen it twice, been told he did it loads of times. Of course he died young and people were glad. He was nutted on Valium every day but was still good at fighting.

That's bizarre, at least Sykes got a drink out of it :TU:

No I'd (thankfully) distanced myself from Sykes by the time this 'business' was established.

I'm not trying to expose anyone, just pointing out they're exactly the same as on FB. If you've sent them in, fair enough. I'm aware you've good knowledge of that scene in that era, you couldn't have composed that legendary rant in the "John Partridge " thread otherwise.

I'd be more than happy to take credit for a 'legendary rant' but I can't, in fact I don't even know who 'John Patridge' is, I am intrigued however and link would be appreciated :TU:

Can't take credit for that it was directly quoted from a PM I was sent (I did state that in my message)

That's the second time I've heard this 'Pigg' accusation, and I'm as oblivious as I was the first time :maybe:

Have a good day Pikey ... sorry Mickey.

No worries, there must be two of you with in depth knowledge of West Yorkshire boxing late 70's-early 90's with an obsession for Sykes and Frank Grant and a hatred of travellers. What are the chances!

And as for my jealousy of your superior knowledge and association with Sykes, yes I'm well and truly gutted I missed the roller coaster ride, culminating in him swallowing against Gardener... I'd like to thank my parents at this stage for having me 15 years later thus letting me follow a set of real boxers on a big stage. You should be grateful to the York lads, too, because without them Grant would have never been at Elland Road for his big night. Great fight by the way.

Mickey, Mickey, MICKEY please calm yourself, you may recall when I 'inboxed' you I stated I did this as I 'didn't want to sour the tone' of this (previously) fine thread, instead of responding by 'inboxing' me you've instead chosen to vent your spleen with a number these of 'off topic' posts on the thread.

Desist.

NB:

I don't have an obsession with Sykes merely had the misfortune to be associated with him some years ago hence the colourful anecdotes I've enlived this thread with (most have enjoyed my input, you are the only dissenting voice)

I have no really interest in Grant, why you evoke him is beyond me.

The accusation of 'jealousy/association' was made by the person who PM'd me, but given the fact you (purportedly) take great pride in your tenuous association with the travelling community/Wharton and the 'hardness' factor you consider it bestows on you, you would have been ecstatic to be a Sykes cohort I'm sure?

'Gardener' ... sorry I know no one of that nomenclature.

'York Lads' ... sounds a bit gay that sorry.

I seem to be victim of a personal attack from Mickey from this point onwards, I've attempted to resolve his grievance by PM but he insists on abusing me on the thread. Can I request that all posts from this point are expunged and if possible the thread locked?

Thanks

Henry and Sykes couldn't be any more different if they tried so how you come to that conclusion, I'll never know. I'm guessing you floated around gyms in Bradford and surrounding eras in that period, did one of the St Pats boxers give you a good hiding in sparring or something? You've dug out a few of them in your various guises. Let it go man, they were a very successful club.

Your anecdotes are merely a cut and paste job from his Fb fan page. Or you run the fan page. Absolutely nothing the other one billion fb users couldn't have done.

Going back to that night at Elland Road in 92, I bet you were a right mixture of emotions! Firstly elated Grant did the business, then heartbroken Nick Manners knocked Sykes out and then Henry won! Is that where all this stems from, because Henry's stablemate beat Sykes, outside the ring? Explains a lot.

All this makes Doncaster seem such a boring, straightforward place.

I've seen some real personal attacks on here from time to time, not sure any directed at offal.
