He would of done it to Jones if he could of, what your in the ring fighting someone, i don't care who he is what record he's got, he's in there wanting to knock you out SO he's going to get knocked out if i get the chance.. Far from Bullying very far YES the fella shouldn't of been in there in the 1st place but thats NOT Jones fault...
Are you serious? A guy that has no hope of winning? Despite Jones' loss in chin and form there is no way this guy could win....
So you have no problem with an ex world champion knocking out a guy having their first pro fight?

Jones was responsible for setting up the event, and that's the problem. If he'd arranged an exhibition bout that's one thing, but to arrange a fight with a complete novice, and treat it as a proper fight is extremely dangerous.
Yeah I'm serious I have NO problem what so ever with this, but as stated above if Jones had made the match then its a Libery Bang out of order but if someone else did and the opponent is willing to take the fight then thats a different story, theres only one man to blame and thats the fella he knocked out..

People do the daftest things when there's money involved. Whoever put the money up and quite frankly anyone involved in the circus of a promotion needs to take a good look at themselves.

He must've been paid something surely. Nothing would surprise me though after this tacky promotion. Next he'll have a que of tramps and beggars waiting to fight him for a tin of beans and a can of super on offer to anyone who lasts a round!

It was part of a mixed promotion with MMA, grappling only and former WWE wrestlers.
After hearing that it was a to show with an audience voting to decide who got to fight him etc I assumed that it was a reality tv affair and would end up as a draw.
I was pretty shocked when he stopped the guy in two.
I think repeatedly calling it the guys 'first' boxing match or pro debut is a little misleading as in all seriousness he seems unlikely to be boxing again.
That said he did talk a good game in the build up from what I have found online.
It always amuses me when boxing fans take the moral high ground. We watch men punch each other in the head for sport. We've all watched overmatched journeymen massacred. Now all of a sudden we're ethical?
Philips has a fighting background and voluntarily boxed Jones. There's no more 'bully' in this matchup than there is on any typical gala boxing bill broadcast on Sky or allegedly every weekend.

Agree with this and London Irish`s opinion too.
Plenty of Boxer`s are sacrificed every weekend, however low RJJ has sunk is the only story here.
The other guy fought for money and got KO`d.

I understand your point... The guy went in the fight wilfully..... But surely you can't approve of Jones' part in this? How can anyone condone a total novice fighting Roy Jones??? And when you offer good money then people's perception gets warped.... But the likelyhood of him winning were something like 10,000-1 (basically if Roy Jones twisted his ankle when he threw a shot.) this is indefensible. If someone offered me 100 grand, win or lose... I'd take it. But this guy had no chance to win. I admire his courage (or stupidity) but I cannot condone something like this.

It's called having a conscience. I don't boxing to see a bloodbath or a one sided beating. I only really enjoy evenly pitched contests. I'm well aware of the dilemmas of being a boxing fan, and revelling in violence, but this really is the thin end of the wedge.

The differences being that's usually boxers trying to make a name for themselves etc., against people who decided to get paid to get beat up, and therefore often learn to fight to keep themselves safe.
i like roy, great fighter in his day, i like the fact hes into chickens aswell but not showing up to fight moran and now this is personally something i think is a real backwards step for him... divvy if you take pride in a win like that
The saddest thing is Roy has to stoop to this level to get a win.
He must be flat broke. He was the poster boy for staying out of damaging fights and always went on about his health and getting out of the game young and intact. It can only be money troubles that's made him so desperate.

I absolutely agree with both posts. The guy will have grown a foot taller going round town for a month with Roy Jones's name on his lips - not to mention some kind of improvement in his cashflow - whereas in actual fact, he could have just said "No thanks". Sounds like he caught a bit of Rocky-fever.
In any case... if he did have 8 MMA fights then he wasn't a "complete novice". Jones might be a few things, but this guy's got through the ropes voluntarily, having had a good bit of time to think it over.

8 MMA fights at what kind of level ? It's almost meaningless, unless you know what kind of opponent's he has faced.
These kind of bouts really shouldn't be sanctioned. Boxing is dangerous enough with highly trained full time professionals let alone part timers or novices facing former world champions.

Please retire now.
I doubt he even spars any more. I read a recent interview with him and his sons, and it appeared he doesn't really train any more.
