All true, and I've seen the Tiger-Carter fight.terap wrote:The "movie" was Hollywood falsification and garbage.
Carter's record is : Won 27 (KOs 19) | Lost 12 | Drawn 1 | Tot 40 |
Carter was TKO'd by Jose Gonzalez in six rounds.
Carter lost ten round decisions to Luis Rodriguez TWICE.
Carter also lost ten round decisions to Rocky Rivero, Stan Harrington, Johnny Morris, Harry Scott, and Joey Archer.
Carter also lost an 8 round decision to Ernest Buford and a 6 round decision to Herschell Jacobs.
Carter was a docile loser to champion Joey Giardello in a 15 round title fight. Carter was badly outclassed by the experienced Giardello.
Dick Tiger wiped up the ring with Carter, knocking Carter three times in winning a LOPSIDED ten round decision over a completely outclassed Carter.
In his loss to Tiger, Carter got help from stooge referee Zack Clayton.
After Tiger knocked Carter down twice in one round (three knockdowns would have been an automatic TKO) referee Clayton shortened the round by one minute and motioned Carter to his corner.
(This is verifiable on the tape of the fight. The round lasts only two minutes. All the other rounds last three minutes.)
As Clayton appears to stop the fight, Tiger raises his hands in victory---then looks confused. Tiger's cornermen persuade him to come and sit in his corner and then resume the fight.
Carter was a drawing card for Madison Square Garden at the time and that is how they worked to protect their product.
Carter lost eight out of his last 14 fights.
You could also add that Carter was floored and given a tough fight by an aging Holly Mims, who took the fight on one day's notice.
He did have a few big wins (his 1st round KO of Emile Griffith, and he beat Georgie Benton at a time when no one wanted to fight Benton)... but other than that he lost almost every time he stepped up his level of competition.
