Everyone on here know about his career and he was on Sky god knows how many times. Mismanaged, maybe, but not unknown.

To be fair, I only just found out about him. He has poor quality clips on youtube. Would loved a good highlight video on him. What do you think he could of achieved potentially?

Yes he was a good boxer but lucky to have got the belt and even luckier that we managed to matchmake his challengers well enough that he could defend it. He was the most casual fighter we ever had, I remember more than once ringside screaming at him to wake up. Lovely man, good boxer, but less dynamic and aggressive than Dylan from the magic roundabout.

I Defently see what you mean, if he went ahead to fight Vernon Forrest. I personally don't see him beating that calliber of opponent. Who do you think was the best opponent he could beat at the time. I wish he though someone like Adrian stone that would of been a good domestic fight.

Agree with Naandrew...'Hoko' was one of a heck of a fighter, worthy of real respect, but just seems to have disappeared and been forgotten.
Terry Downes also gets overlooked....not sure why because he fought and won in a classic era for the middles...the passing of time I guess?

To be completely balanced, though, Hoko didn't exactly pull up trees when you look at his fights against genuine world class opposition: lost more than he won, best win, very faded villasana, good fighter yes and entertaining but he didn't leave a massive mark on the world stage IMO.

I used to enjoy watching Shea Neary on ITV years ago when I was a boy. I don't think he was a legitimate world champ though? Can't remember if he had any other titles or just the WBU?

I think the most obscure world 'title' holder we've ever had (I once saw his reign described as 'secret') was Patrick Mullings who won and lost the IBO Superbantam title in 1998.

Javid khaliq defended Ibo title 7 times, then retired cause of poor promotion and little pay. Was rated in top 10 welterweight by ring magazine.
He was called out by verrron forest after he beat Shane Mosley. He was a cabbi while fighting pro just to support his family. He use to get paied more by being a cabbi then to fight .

He owns his own gym now, there also a artical on how he came in a gym and carl frotch saw his title and that motivated him. He also became pro at 27 so he was getting older retired around 2005. Just before amir khan came to the scene, most people think amir khan was the first British pakistani champion.

I think most people never even heard of this guy lol so there for I win

Always wanted to see Jawaid against Sinclair. I remember those three of Sinky, Hare and Jawaid, and they never fought each other....real shame

For some time, a match between Jawaid Khaliq and Harry Dhami was being mooted, until Dhami got starched (unexpectedly) by Sinky. If Dhami had won that one he'd have claimed the Lonsdale belt outright. I think Khaliq would've had the better of Sinclair and Hare though.

I always thought the Sinky jab would have controlled them both. It was a sad state of affairs they never happened! That Sinky run was amazing, it brings back the years!

That's not quite true - Catley was level on the cards with Beyer at the end of 11 rounds, which given the fight was in Germany was some achievement. The only person who had Beyer well ahead was Judge Jo Jo Guerra, the guy who scored Leonard-Hagler 118-110...
