Terry Baldock turned Pro aged 12yrs???
Yesterday I read an article in The Sun saying Amir Khan is already too old to become Britain's youngest world champ as the record is held by Terry Baldock who fought in May 1927 aged 18 years and 350 days for the World Bantanweight Title. But on checking Baldock's record it shows that his first fight was in March 1921. Now, if my maths serves me correctly that makes him approx 12 years and 10 months when he turned pro. Furthermore, up until his World Title bout his record read 56(25)-1-1. Is it possible, even concievable, that a boy (literally!) could have been that handy or does The Sun's researcher need to lay off the wacky backy??! :P :P :P
Boxredc gives Baldock's DOB as 1907 which would make him 20 when he fought Charlie Phil Rosenberg.
However:
1: It's possible that he was actually born earlier
2: It's entirely feasible that he was a pro at 12 in those days.
And just in case we think things are better now remember there are children as young as 10 fighting in wars in Afria and elsewhere these days!
As we all know thiugh, if it's in the Sun it MUST be true!
