For me, if you're not a rare, genuine all rounder (Jon Jones/GSP) then just concentrate on elite striking and Take down defense. Maybe work on a dangerous guard/sweeps etc in case you do get taken down. Aldo is the perfect example of this minus the dangerous guard.

What's your thoughts on Judo in mma Jujigatame? Have there been guys other than Karo? I tought he was a prick when he picked on Nate but they are probably same age. Karo had a lot of talent but seemed to have a huge chip on his shoulder.. Shame about his substance problems, he had some great throws.

Yes Dan he was Mannys cousin. That was the best season for me. I have not watched many more since.
I think it can be a very good base. Clinchwork is so damn important in MMA, guys like Randy Couture have shown you don't need to base your entire stand-up grappling game on single and double legs. I think the reason you don't see as many judoka as wrestlers is because MMA is still mostly popular in the US and in the US judo simply isn't a very popular pasttime.

Don't forget, Fedor was more or less a judoka.
I thought Fedor was a Sambo practioner? I mean Sambo has elements of Judo to it but also has quite a bit of Wrestling involved aswell.

Judo and Sambo are extremely similar. Fedor competed in both, I believe he medaled in the Russian Judo nationals at least once.

Nah the logistics do not add up there at all. Vegas.
NYC would be huge for 200 but then again the first NYC card will be huge regardless. 200 is nailed on for Vegas because it's the first UFC event at that new 20,000 seat arena.
yeah that is a done deal.

Yeah. Just read that Lorenzo is shooting for a NY show late in the year. Possibly 2 before the end of the year. Then 4 fights per year in the state there after. :bag:
Glad I could straighten you out on that. :TU:

How is Aldo not one of those rare all rounders? Great TDD, everyone he has tried to takedown he has, BJJ world champ at brown(subbed the Cobrinha in comp), sliced through everyone's guard he has tried to(mounted Florian, crucifixed faber, completely out grappled matt brown) No one has been able to keep him on his back long enough for us to see his guard save for Hominick when he was sick and four rounds up, he still took no damage in that round. IMO he is more well rounded than GSP(better striking, better BJJ TDD is just as solid, better speed and power), the problem seems to be if a guy doesn't use his wrestling offensively all the time fans say he isn't well rounded. It's simple really he doesn't need to use his offensive wrestling and BJJ most of the time.

You're right about not having to show a dangerous guard because his TDD is just so good. I think you missed the point though. I was using Aldo as an example to prove you don't have to show you're an all rounder if you have elite striking and TDD. I'd definitely call Aldo rare because he's a P4P great but he hasn't had to show offensive wrestling which is why I didn't put him in that bracket. Fighters like Jones and GSP often showed all aspects of MMA in one fight, especially Jones. Doesn't mean they're better than Aldo P4P necessarily.

I get ya now, it's just easy to forget for most people how great of a grappler Aldo is. The Korean zombie fight wasn't great, it's worth mentioning because Aldo broke his foot in the first round and had to wrestle afterwards. KZ showed really good TDD and general grappling against Porier but looked below average against Aldo.
Speaking of KZ his military service is almost over and he is looking to return at the end of the year.
Can't wait to see Jones back in action either, whenever I watch him I think fornicate he looks goofy striking but he's affective and his grappling is arguably the best MMA grappling we have ever seen.

Didn't even realize KZ was on military service! Will be good to see him back, been in some mad fights.

Yeah Jones is a force. We all know he can demolish people (Was scary what he did to Machida) but he's also shown us he can go to war (Gustafsson). Definitely good to have him back.

Apparently, Diaz/McGregor II is almost a done deal. However, Dana and McGregor want the fight at 170. And Diaz is asking for the fight at 155. Diaz says he will be more fit at 155 and doesn't want any excuses this time.

Doesn't surprise me at all. The UFC has never had as much faith in McGregor as people seem to think. It's why they kept him away from Edgar and a full camp Mendes, I fully believe the plan was for Aldo(Lorenzos reaction to the KO makes me believe this even more) to look like a star in beating McGregor and him to finally sell PPVs. The same thing with Dos Anjos, after his pullout it's why they chose an out of shape, partying Diaz at 170 rather than Cerrone who was just coming off a short fight after a full camp and could make 155. McGregor sells fights mostly to people who don't follow other fighters, the second fight with Diaz at 170 can still fool these people into believing the hype.

I've gotta believe an in shape and full camp Diaz with sparring will be better this time around. Even though McGregor reversed him Diaz took him down with surprising ease, he won't take as long to get his distance and timing.

McGregor needs to either be stripped or vacate the 145 belt, yes people bring up Aldo being injured etc but the main difference is for years he defended twice a year and had effectively cleaned out the division with McGregor being the only top guy he hadn't already beat.

I don't quite understand this? Surely it would suit McGregor to be leaner at 155? He didn't exactly look great at 170!

168 would've been about the weight he was planning on being by fight night at 155 anyway.

My thinking on this is that if Conor loses again at 170, there is a built in excuse in: he "jumped up 2 weight classes again". Which is partly why Nate wants it at 155. They can't use the BS weight excuse that people are lapping up like crazy. And, if Conor does avenge his loss to Diaz at 170, then he can claim his effectiveness as a WW.

There is nothing in the rules that state that Diaz can't weigh in at 155 even if the rematch is contracted at 170/welter.

In fact, that would be some prime Diaz passive-aggressiveness if he were to show up to weigh ins and make 155 for the fight while Conor weighs in at welterweight limit at 170.

I do wonder how much someone like Diaz cuts to get to 155, skinny guys like him without much muscle mass can't cut like the thinkers guys do. I actually think he is likely under 170 come fight time.

I was actually thinking this. Would be pretty awesome if he did. Then Diaz can go around saying that he, a lightweight, kicked a welterweight's @ss.

That's exactly what it is. If he wins, they have a trilogy, if he loses he drops down. Done deal, Aldo/Edgar too.
