I'd class Wilder as legitimate as he has a genuine title won (and defended) comprehensively, although I rate Fury higher and expect Povetkin to win the WBC strap.

Fights for the other belts I just see as eliminators. Same as the WBC Silver etc or the various International championships, which is a sad state of affairs really.

In fairness, all the guys at the top are at least saying the right things and realise that being the Undisputed Champion is what it's all about.

Haye would be completely wasting his time. Beating Briggs would prove absolutely nothing. It'd generate interest because of how much of a character Briggs is, but it won't move him any closer to a world title shot, which is what he wants to ear proper money.

I imagine Haye only has about 5-6 fights before he hangs the gloves up (again), so to use one of them fights for Briggs would be laughable. I expect he'll look for a fight to propel him into top 10, then another fight to propel him to a title shot. Let's look at the belts on hand. Fury won't give him a shot, period. Joshua has a fight in a few weeks, but might be open to that fight in the summer (although I'd prefer a fight against a genuine top 10 before Haye), then you have Wilder, who also has a mandatory to deal with.

I get the feeling that Haye is looking at the Joshua route, because all the others are closed off. Joshua won't be forced to take that fight, so it'll all come down to how the Martin test goes. But if he blows him out in 3 rounds and looks very good, I can't see it not happening.

Briggs is rank 7 on the WBA ranking, winning against him would put Haye in at least rank 7, but probably rank 4 ish, Fury already said Haye wasted so much of his time, he would never fight him again, Klitschko has made fun of him before as well, Haye is way too scared for Luiz Ortiz, and the others aren't interested either. I can't think out any more suiteble opponend at this moment, Briggs is ranked higher in every way except for the WBC, but he won't get that belt either so...

At this rate, Haye is going to be fighting his speed bag & that would be a better opponent than Mark De Mori. :TU:

I just cannot believe Briggs is ranked so high by the WBA. It's embarrassing.

Okay so he's ranked 7. But with the circus, which is the 'WBA knockout tournament' for the premium title, Haye would have to wait until at least after 2017 to get himself in the running. Seems like another dead end to me.

I think the only route to a world title is through the IBF, and I don't think he's going to get there through the mandatory route. The only way he gets a fight with Joshua is the money. And even then, he's gotta try pry it from Hearns fingers. Who'd be the bigger draw in that fight? 50:50?

briggs is ranked higher by boxrec as well, also, several of Briggs recent opponends are ranked higher as Mark de Mori, fighting one bum in 3 years aint going to give you a world title shot. No clue what makes you think David Haye will fight any beltholder before 2017, but if it happens, it's most likely the WBA.

What a waste of a headline!

They'd have been better off just waiting until he'd actually announced which corpse he is going to dig up to fight!

Also, assuming the poster is legit, I wonder who is fleshing out the purses quid pro quo. At least Haye isn't oiled up in the middle of a Qatari circle jerk, I suppose.

I have never heard of this guy.... If the poster is true it's another glossy record who's getting banged out quick. Anyone got footage of him?

This guy took Bakhtov 12 rounds recently......Who AJ beat ( and Haye would beat) without breaking a sweat.

Would have rather Briggs we would have got a laugh and at least the lets go champ stuff would end as Haye would have destroyed him.

Horrific opponent if true. Gjergjaj in his last fight went 12 rounds with Bakhtov - Bakhtov who a novice Joshua bashed in 2 rounds.

Haye's heavyweight career is cynical beyond belief.

If true it's a seriously underwhelming opponent, but to me anyway preferable to that tiresome clown Briggs (the build up to that would have been tiresome, the fight itself a complete slaughter)

He also went life and death with some mediocre opponent named Adnan Redzovic shortly before the Bakhtov fight.

Agreed.

I really hope this isn't true, otherwise Haye risks becoming a laughing stock all over again.

Hes not in the top 15 of any of the governing bodies rankings is he? If this is true then it must be a tune up to a bigger figjt later in the year?
