Ward v Barrera RBR
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Round 12 = Barrera comes out throwing. Ward slips. Barrera knows the score. It seems like Ward has never had to shift into high gear. Beautiful exhibition by Ward, period.

did look good
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Ward never showed his right hand much. He never got into upper gear.
That said, Barrera is a load.
Ward fought clean, boxed beautifully. Very excellent display of boxing skill.

Barrera was never out of it. I am excited to see him in with Fonfara or the like.

Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Solid fight. I thought Barrera was a competent competitor and just slightly outclassed by ward.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Barrera is just not a top guy. He couldn't make to #1 of Cuban teams, neither can he beat top LHWs. Fonfara sounds about right.Tanzio wrote:Barrera was never out of it. I am excited to see him in with Fonfara or the like.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
It would be an excellent, entertaining fight. Barrera competed well tonight. He is not an easy out for anyone.ikorolev wrote:Barrera is just not a top guy. Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
I think Kovalev would easily stop him. I don't think he proved himself to be any better than a top 20 guyTanzio wrote:It would be an excellent, entertaining fight. Barrera competed well tonight. Maybe. Maybe not. I hope that we do not find out until after Ward v Krusher.crusader wrote:I think Kovalev would easily stop him. Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
I think that beyond Kovalev, Beterbiev, Ward and possibly Stevenson, there is a wide grey area where both Fonfara and Barrera belong.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
I think he fits in more with Y Gonzalez than Fonfara.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
It is good to have Ward back. This was a masterful performance, and it was entertaining as fvk.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Let's find out v Fonfara. I think that Barrera deserves it.crusader wrote:I think he fits in more with Y Gonzalez than Fonfara.

Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Andre Ward needed a fight like that, it was a solid 12 rounds for him.
His jab was impressive, his left hook was outstanding at times and he maintained a steady pace throughout the entire bout.
He remained in control and was never out of position while sustataining his focus, yes he's a little slower and older than he was once but overall he looked in quite good form as he looks to have shaken some more of that ring rust off.
Definitely a positive performance from Andre and maybe the pendulum has swung back to him in light of the potential fight with Kovalev although it remains extremely close between the two.
That fight is now shaping up very nicely.

Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Ward was very BHop like tonight. Krusher v Ward is building into something very large now. Ward showed pop that could conceivably do to Krusher or Adonis what FMJ did to GingerHead.Evander wrote:Andre Ward needed a fight like that, it was a solid 12 rounds for him.

Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
I disagree about the pop. That was a good performance, but the pop wasn't enough to disturb Barrera. When the KD happened, he was just caught off balance. Of course, Ward could drop Kova who loses balance a lot the same way, but this kind of pop will not be enough to keep Sergey off Andre.Tanzio wrote:Ward was very BHop like tonight. like i said in my other thread, bulldozers like bert, adonis and kovalev go through ward and break him appart.
you could see at times ward having problems with the bigger barrera and barrera is a weak lh, look a his ko ratio, he rarely knocks somebody out. with the top light heavyweights it will be a totaly different ball game. but! they have to play their game and not wards game. this is what maidana or castillo did right against floyd, they did what they wanted to do, they didnt play floyds waiting strategy game.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
Krusher is one of my favorites but he does not have a granite chin. He can be clipped at an odd angle and find himself canvass-side, which would affect his offense. I'm not favoring Ward, but it is far from a foregone conclusion. I think that Ward is to be reckoned with.Chepppaaa wrote:aggreeikorolev wrote:I disagree about the pop. His haters can howl but they are all apprehensive about what he might do to their favorites.
Re: Ward v Barrera RBR
I think his reactions were better than I expected, yes he got caught and marked but it didn't in any way change his psyche or attitude, he remained positive and competitive the entire time and we saw 12 full rounds with him under pressure fairly constantly.Tanzio wrote:Ward was very BHop like tonight. He got clean on a couple of occasions and stood up to it fairly well, he didn't suffer from any kind of stamina or pace related problems and looked in good physical shape.
His boxing ability although not too varied was good, the jab, positioning and his ring smarts and left hook seemed in good working order, his power is in his accuracy, timing and delivery.
