Can't see ward fighting kovalev after today

Post by Pureist »

After just watching ward v Barrera I see no hope of the kovalev fight happening, Barrera is a good 10-12 ranked fighter in my eyes, not huge power, not fast with his hands or feet but definitely not an easybeat, landed quite a lot on ward but didn't really hurt him, kovalev is a very different animal, his jabs will do more damage than barreras rights, ward didn't struggle to win but if anyone says that was a dominant win then they are biased, I can definitely see ward going back down to 168 to avoid the kovalev fight or an injury conveniently occurring, to say he has skills as good or nearly as good as floyd is a joke, he is a cheap imitation, if anyone thinks he should be elevated to P4P 2 or similar off that performance they should seek another sport to watch

Same, Kovalev would finish him within 8 rounds and I think Ward knows it.

No way is the fight going to happen. Ward's going to pick up an "injury" and sit on the sidelines for a year until Kovalev is safely tied up with someone else. The man ran away from Bute, of course he's going to duck Kovalev.

he is technicly on a top level, not far away from floyds. big difference was, that not only was floyd top of the top technicly but also top of the top athleticly. ward is technicy a 10, but athleicly a 8,5.

kovalev breaks him, but ward is tough to fight, with his ducking down and leaning to the side, its hard to hit him, but true barrera tried to manage to punch him and land a lot of clear shots and if b can than kovalev can and yes, kovalev hurts ward and wards will probably not fight him.

Ward and Kovalev will fight early 2017.. Ward will outbox Kovalev IMO and win a close decision. I agree Kovalev would have more than likely got Barrera out of there in 7, by that means fornicate all in what would happen in a Ward/Kovalev fight. Ward is a master boxer, he's not a puncher. Ward did show a little ring rust as well, he got hit with some shots but that's what he neede, now he know what to work on in the gym. I love it when people create boxers into these undefeated killers because they knock people out, like the Kovalev fans. I like both Kovalev and Ward (but of course I'm going to cheer for my countrymen Ward) I like what both of them bring to the table, I think they both bring something to the table that neither of them have ever seen and I'm pretty confident Ward will figure Kovalev out and beat him. The hype Kova, puts him in a position to where he has no place to go but down and Mark my words. Ward isn't what you think he is and Kova is not the better boxer.

I think they will fight late this year after each gets another tune up. I have said before that Ward beats Kovalev, and will stick to it. Kovalev is very good, but Ward will win a fairly close decision imo. Ward haters thought Barrera would take him out, but even a rusty Ward dominated.

Examples of dominating, floyd v canelo, pacquaio v cotto, that's dominating, ward shaded Barrera today in most rounds, not even close to dominating, was hit easily by a slow fringe contender who was picked for that exact reason, take your American glasses off, they are cloudy

I would like to see Ward take another fight against a good, rated opponent. I am thinking someone like Shabransky. At the same time lets have Kova vs Chikensson. Then at the end of the year big Christmas showdown for p4p crown.

Did anyone really pick Barrera?

I thought most people agreed it was a mismatch.

So, there are two people who you would not consider a mismatch v Ward.

Anyone else?

Beterbiev may be the only other man (besides Ward) who can seriously trouble Kovalev at the weight. Any bout between the 3 fighters would make compelling viewing - they are 3 very talented boxers with Ward the most skilled and Kovalev the most powerful, Beterbiev may be the strongest. It'll be great to see who comes out on top and in honesty, I don't see there being an easy bout here.

Stevenson wouldn't be a mismatch, but Ward would have better chances than against the two Russians.

I guess I should have typed hoped instead of thought. I agree that few if any picked Barrera to win.

Ward only gave himself a grade of a B- for his performance, but I thought he was better than that considering his inactivity. If he is at his best it will be a great fight between him and Kovalev. Ward wins, imo.

I think at this stage Ward and Kova are head above the rest in the division.

First of all, Beterbiev has all of 9 victories, his last being 9 months ago against a no hoper. He has nothing on the schedule yet. He is 31 years old and he intends to fight once a year for the rest of his career? Put him in with Eleider or Barrera or Chilemba or Pascal or Rodriguez or anyfukingbody and let's see what he's got.

I'd love to see Stevenson v Ward. I think that Ward likely stops him but Adonis is underrated by some. He could KTFO Ward.

They're going to fight. I think ward might try and move it from November, at the very least he will try and get a second tune up after the June deadline.

Beterbiev had a shoulder surgery which is why he hasn't fought. He is scheduled to fight in June. Hopefully he will fight some top 10 guy within 3-4 months after that.
