Saunders last night
Saunders was saying last night that he didn't feel he had received enough recognition for winning the world title.
Could that be because his title win was among the worst title fights in history? I would be amazed if any fighter ever has won a world title throwing & landing so few punches.
It also says a lot about the belt he holds that he needs to fight GGG in order to find out 'what he has.'

Re: Saunders last night
I suspect Tyson Fury landed considerably less punches to win his title.
But as pointed out by another poster last night, it's interesting how Saunders wasn't quite so keen on testing himself against Golovkin when GGG actually offered him the fight.

He called out GGG last night, I think he and his pals might of had a few too many Bevvies though.Tuan_Jim wrote:Saunders was saying last night that he didn't feel he had received enough recognition for winning the world title.

Re: Saunders last night
i thought it was unprofessional of saunders last night, he let his emotions get in the way of his pundit work. he got involved with eubank during the fight. very poor in my opinion.

i thought that too, hoping for Eubank to get KO'd was poor and the belt waving in front of Eubank snr was also bad and i believe Lockett allowed the fight to go on longer due to Saunders etc flag waving.

I understand what you're saying but I did find it more interesting than the usual uncontroversial guff coming out of the mouths of th Sky teamrhino222 wrote:i thought it was unprofessional of saunders last night, he let his emotions get in the way of his pundit work. he got involved with eubank during the fight. very poor in my opinion.

I somehow doubt C5 brought in Saunders because of his unbiased analytical skills. They knew exactly the type of things he'd say and were probably hoping for a dramatic face-off after the fight, although obviously it couldn't really pan out that way after what happened to Blackwell.

Agreed. The presence of Saunders and Fury wasnt good for Blackwell - i think it increased the pressure for him.bigjack wrote:rhino222 wrote:i thought it was unprofessional of saunders last night, he let his emotions get in the way of his pundit work. he got involved with eubank during the fight. very poor in my opinion.

At times in between rounds Blackwell looked distressed and a little lost in his corner whilst looking over in the direction of meaty Mick, Saunders, Fury etc. I reckon Blackwell suffered serious jaw damage too.

I notice how he was politely asked to step aside by Dempsey when Eubank Jr was being interviewed, he kept quite through most of the interview but I'm sure I heard him shouting some comments about the Union Jack over Eubank's shoulder at one point.Boxerbeetle wrote:I somehow doubt C5 brought in Saunders because of his unbiased analytical skills. Re: Saunders last night
I think that primarily comes down to the fact that he fights on a specialist ppv channel. His profile would be far greater on Sky sports owing to the vast difference in potential viewers between the two stationsTuan_Jim wrote:Saunders was saying last night that he didn't feel he had received enough recognition for winning the world title.

Re: Saunders last night
You could have a point there. When I boxed (amateur) I probably performed best when hardly anyone was there (friends etc..). My dad n uncle were always there but that never came into my mind. I was always terrified of taking a tanking off someone infront of my mates. Never afraid of a beating just afraid of who saw.liamlion wrote:Agreed. Obviously last nights fight was on TV but maybe it's a subliminal side issue?

Their presence didn't help Eubanks either when he lost it mid round to turn and point and shout at BJS.liamlion wrote:Agreed. It all made for great entertainment but at what cost?
I'd fancy Eubanks to beat BJS handily if a rematch comes off.
Re: Saunders last night
To the contrary. I think Eubank senior and junior work on the basis that they are renegades, doing things against everyone else and challenging the convention.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Their presence didn't help Eubanks either when he lost it mid round to turn and point and shout at BJS.liamlion wrote:Agreed. I think the introductions worked in the favour of the Eubanks and if anything gave junior added incentive.
If seemed like Fury and Saunders' presence in the ring was an attempt to intimate the Eubanks but the Eubanks barely blinked and in fact Junior revelled in it. Eubank jr didnt lose it at any stage, he was playing up to it. Making the point that the likes of Saunders were helpless in affecting the outcome of the fight.

As a pundit he was shocking.
He's desperate for the Eubank fight as otherwise financially he might be forced to a GGG fight.
I thought the Eubanks handled themselves well on Saturday.

Saunders antics were cringeworthy. As if Eubank snr would be intimidated by that.PredatorHayds wrote:As a pundit he was shocking.

Re: Saunders last night
Eubank and senior are now known outside boxing circles, difficult to say that for Saunders who has been buried away on FW shows on BN with no public profile.
If Eddie had him he would have been on a stacked PPV card against TBA and had the Matchroom hype machine fully with him.

Re: Saunders last night
Saunders keeps saying that he don't rate Eubank jr, at all, yet he just about hung on to win against him, in their fight, despite Saunders being the most experienced at the time, Saunders is a so called world champion, so why is he so concerned about Eubank jr so much, I think he feels that he was lucky against Eubank jr, deep inside, this after he had rubbish Eubank jr so much before. Did not Saunders say that he was going to retire, if he did not stop him in 5 rounds and his that his Dad would whip him ? Eubank jr has never been rubbish, if they fight again, Eubank jr will beat Saunders.

If it kicked off I'd actually stick my money on Snr!samwbr wrote:Saunders antics were cringeworthy. As if Eubank snr would be intimidated by that.PredatorHayds wrote:As a pundit he was shocking.

Seriousoy though, it showed a complete lack of class on Saunders' part and as many have said, the Saunders/Fury sideshow was not beneficial to Blackwell at all imo. The Eubank clan didn't seem slightly bothered about the 'traveller mafia' and why would they be? I understand it's all for show but the waving of the belt in front of an ex-fighter who achieved things Saunders can only dream of and who would have handed his arse to him on a plate in his prime, was quite insulting.
I've always liked Billy Joe as a fighter and thought he came across well before Eubank jnr came on the scene and he seemed to find a bitterness from somewhere. I still fancy him to beat Jnr in a rematch but it will be a close run thing.

We should all recall that poster on here who tells the story of the UK ama team inc Gavin and BJS sparring at his gym, and G & BJS discovered in the act of, I think it was, trying to rob someone's motorbike tools.... You can take the boy out of.... Etc....
Re: Saunders last night
I vaguely remember that - I think that they both might have been involved in drinking/misbehaving and got sent home on another occasion but stealing shows a different mentality and moral compass.Counter-puncher wrote:We should all recall that poster on here who tells the story of the UK ama team inc Gavin and BJS sparring at his gym, and G & BJS discovered in the act of, I think it was, trying to rob someone's motorbike tools.... Re: Saunders last night
It was the smalltime petty mentality as much as the moral compass that caught my eye, there.
