Billy Joe does seem a bit chippy about Eubank Jnr's upbringing and that Snr was a world champion. He's desperate for the Eubank fight as otherwise financially he might be forced to a GGG fight.
I thought the Eubanks handled themselves well on Saturday.
Seriousoy though, it showed a complete lack of class on Saunders' part and as many have said, the Saunders/Fury sideshow was not beneficial to Blackwell at all imo. The Eubank clan didn't seem slightly bothered about the 'traveller mafia' and why would they be? I understand it's all for show but the waving of the belt in front of an ex-fighter who achieved things Saunders can only dream of and who would have handed his arse to him on a plate in his prime, was quite insulting.
I've always liked Billy Joe as a fighter and thought he came across well before Eubank jnr came on the scene and he seemed to find a bitterness from somewhere. I still fancy him to beat Jnr in a rematch but it will be a close run thing.

Re: Saunders last night
Eubank Snr was a world class boxer and world champion, his boy taking up the sport was always going to be a big deal to the media, especially as Eubank was a very famous fighter and divisive figure. Saunders seems to have a chip on his shoulder about the attention Jnr gets. Jnr has a bit about him though. Going to the states etc, his old man had it hard as eff too and was a proper street kid.palooka wrote:Billy Joe does seem a bit chippy about Eubank Jnr's upbringing and that Snr was a world champion. Billy Joe was given all kinds of advantages too being part of the GB team. That's silver spoon stuff amateur style for sure. Of course, he earned the right to enjoy such privilges. I'd like to see him focus on himself a bit more.
Re: Saunders last night
Over the last couple years I had found the BJS act humourous, even the slightly off things he has said about soft seats at Brighton and calling Eubank a wanker, even though they are not things I agree with or an attitude I think is healthy. But I laugh at Jimmy Carr and do not mind some clear funny piss taking but BJS is becoming a right hypocritical bore now.
Re: Saunders last night
Some people have class and civilised behaviour and then you get Saunders.
What a pig ignorant arsehole.
Listen ,talking and acting the way he does just reinforces the view of nasty travellers in a lot of peoples ideas

Can you imagine if BJS had stood in front of Nigel Benn like that waving the belt in his face. Benn is a different temperament from Eubank and would have banged him out on the spot.

I think Saunders is just pretty pissed at the Eubanks and I kinda get why. I thought Junior was pretty disrespectful to him even after their fight, I think he needs to chill though.

Well, if Eubank does box him again, Saturday's antics were a great shot in the arm for allegedly. The fight has just got spicier. Well done, Billy.

I always cringe when a fighter who's at a higher level above 1 fighter cant stop harping on about them, even worse when the fighter has already beat them

Have to agree with you. That's why he isn't popular. He's a paper champ who nobody has any real interest in. Some of the stuff I've heard him come away with is just scummy.

Re: Saunders last night
In BJS' slight defence, I can see why he'd be a bit arsey that somebody who he has already beaten is getting more publicity than him for a British title fight. (When he himself is a world champion.) Also, the reason that he was brought in was so he could hype up a potential rematch with Eubank Jr. If he gave the Eubanks nothing but respect, he's not doing his job properly.
Saying that, them's just the breaks. Eubank Jr is always going to be more famous than BJS. Partly because his surname is Eubank, and partly because Saunders fights on Allegedly Channel. (Which only hardcore boxing fans get.) Moaning on about it aint going to help that much.
Also, his insistence on going on about how shite Jr. was got a bit old. When BJS beat him, it was Eubank's first step up and he froze for five rounds. Based on what I saw on Saturday, I think Eubank has improved and could probably beat Saunders now. That's the benefit of experience.
BJS just isn't a natural showman. And his spiel about Eubank came across as petty, rather than entertaining. Saunders could've at least praised Jr's performance post-fight, and then said he was still confident he could beat him. That would've made the fight sound more interesting than his constant and untrue sulking that Chris Eubank Jr. can't box.

Re: Saunders last night
Billie Joe lost me a bit on Saturday. I was prepared to go along with his success and smack talk to a point, but I felt that on Saturday he proved himself to be a bit of a knob. His behaviour and babyish antics of his pals just makes me think they're just another bunch of traveller idiots, which is the stereotype you are told not to believe, but they confirmed it for themselves.

Re: Saunders last night
It was rather embarrassing, Saunders made himself look a proper eedjit - it was clear to me Eubank had improved, and Saunders looked pretty foolish after the fight.
Whilst Eubank is still a bit predictable at times, he's improving, and looks to me like he has further room to improve too - I was very skeptical about his changes of making it beyond domestic level, but he impressed me with his workrate, heavy handedness and drive. He'll definitely need to work a little on that defence, and vary his work a bit more (although there was some nice switching from downstairs to head) to cut it at top level.
Unless Saunders is prepared to work quite a bit harder than he did in that first fight, where Jr gifted him the early rounds by dint of doing bugger all, he's got his hands full with Eubank in a rematch.

Re: Saunders last night
Bjs was a disgrace as a supposed punter pre fight he was so anti eubank
His comments were cringe worthy why did channel 5 employ such an idiot
He is obviously rather jeolousy of eubank because his lack of recognition
During fight he was sat ringside and his behaviour was pathetic childish and
An embarressment to the boxing community
Might be wiser to concentrate on what he is good at boxing to just below genuine
World level from all the posts on this board what little recognition he feels he gets
Has gone with his conduct saturday
The main thing that came out was that blackwell was a very brave fighter lets
Hope he makes a full recovery

Re: Saunders last night
I didn't really get the impression BJS was there to comment on the fight. It struck me more as "oh you're here, want be on telly for half an hour?" and he lapped it up, turning it into The BJS Show.
Sure his opinions were forthright to say the least, and perhaps unprofessional in terms of commentating. Certainly he also let his feelings dominate any valid points he may have had to make about Junior or Blackwell.
That said, I much preferred it to Sky's output of bland platitudes.

this. if benn had behaved like that back in the day he wouldnt have got half the stick BJS is getting. I think most, yes most, people see the funny side of Fury and the like ability despite some of the dodgy stuff he says. You can tell he's got a good heart. Bully Joe lacks that.
Re: Saunders last night
I don't think BJS cares what people think and makes no apologies for what he feels like saying.
He's not everyone's cup of piss, but what's the alternative? a scripted media-friendly vacuous personality.
Talk of him fighting Danny Jacobs next which would be a good fight.

Is he not keen on fighting GGG? I thought he was going to try and box GGG in the summer, having already turned down a career high payday against him.G0mez wrote:I don't think BJS cares what people think and makes no apologies for what he feels like saying.

The idea he's now talking up, and reckons Warren is working on, is having the GGG fight co-feature with Fury/Wlad II at Wembley in July. Would certainly ensure 70/80k there.big lennox wrote:Is he not keen on fighting GGG? Next to no chance it happens but it's a mouthwatering prospect...
