Raul "Lobito" Montoya

Post by Palais »

This Mexican lightweight contender of the late 60's and early 70's was never knocked out, according to several sources.

However, he is listed for 4 KO losses here in BoxRec.;

1967-12-07 Dwight Hawkins, Olymoic, LA, CA L KO 9
(This was a TKO, when he suffered a hernia)

1964-06-20 Sal Martinez, Mexico City L KO 7 (Date unknown - note)
1964-03-03 Sal Martinez, Mexico City L KO 6 (Date unknown - note)

1969-06-03 Charlie Shipes, Juarez, MX L KO 1

The Dwight Hawkins bout existed, bout did the other three? Was it in fact another Montoya around at that time? He had several boxing brothers.

Can somebody with the right record book, or other sources, check this up, please?
:-?

The results of Lobito agains Sal Martinez is my fault.
In Sal Martinez record from RRB -69 there is two bouts against Raul Montoya. These bouts does not appear in Lobito Montoyas record so it must be another fighter called Raul Montoya.
I should have seen this when I entered the records, sorry!
I´ll change this at once.

The Ring, Sept. 1969, reports;
>Ciudad Juarez, CHIHUAHUA-Charlie Shipes, 149, U.S.A. iced Raul Montoya, 151, in the first round. (1969-06-11)
In the same issue, under WORLD-WIDE FIGHT RESULTS, For the Month Ending July 13, 1969;
> Lightweight division Raul Montoya beat Ray Adigun, 12. (Los Angeles, 1969-06-03)
This should indicate that there was a Light Middleweight named Raul Montoya, while "Lobito" outpointed Ray Adigun on a level where weights are strictly weigh-in controlled.
Lobito could impossibly add 20 pounds in a week!
Conclusion; Two different Raul Montoya's with a 20 pounds weight difference.
Anyone agree?
