Sr felt the flashy multi punch combo's should have resulted in the ref jumping in. My understanding during the fight was that Sr was telling him that the ref was not going to stop the fight from head shots so to take the stoppage decision into his own hands by going to the body. I didn't think he was saying "don't hit him in the face anymore in case he gets hurt" as the media have been making out.

No he didn't. When did he tell him to stop punching the head? Print the exact wording please.

He said "Number one he will get hurt and number two it will go to a decision". Now what the actual feck has a decision got to do with the wellbeing of the other fighter? It does not fit at all.

Moving on. Son continued to hit the opponent, targetting the head. He was so concerned and compassionate that he did zero in the round, no shouting at Jnr to stop doing it. Then the next break he again reiterated his worry of it going to a decision and then added, "get him out of there" or "take him out" ( i forget which exactly). Hardly that concerned.

Compassion would have been refusing to fight on and refusing to hit the lad again and demanding he sought medical attention. Compassion is not standing in a corner watching your son continue to hit him in the head when suspecting serious damage

If people want to highlight a very rare act of compassion across the newspaper and on news outlets, it kind of suggests it is not the norm, so there would not be previous example of much compassion. Logic.

I actually agree with your point that the media have gone overboard on this - and indeed, completely made stuff up. The front page of the Guardian today is an absolute joke.

However, Eubank Snr was imploring the referee to stop the fight from ringside. And, he give very odd advice to his son between rounds, the overriding message of which is open to interpretation (I actually do think it was a combination of tactics "go to the body" with concern for his opponent).

Well there is now another thread here that answers the questions and comes from the horses mouth. He saw no need to hit the head as they were winning but also because the kid was absorbing the head shots. Time to try the body to take him out. That comes out of the mouth of Eubank himself.

When asked if Snr would have given the advice about going downstairs if they had not been in such a strong position, they confirm they would not have given that advice. Junior even says, for those of you still refusing to believe what has been fecking obvious since the fight - "It does not matter how hurt the guy is, if I'm in danger, he wants his fighter his son to come away with the victory"

Christ, end of the day, the Eubanks have done nothing wrong and there was no need to make this whole BS story up

Eubank knew the cameras were on him, and he was also hoping the ref would hear him shouting. He tried this when he was fighting Henry Wharton. After a flurry of blows he invited the referee to stop it, and Wharton laughed out loud. Eubank's 'grandstanding' was all about winning the fight, not concern for Blackwell. Great publicity for him now though.

Watch the fight again snr is clearly heard saying if the referee doesn't stop it I don't know what to tell you, but I will tell you this one, if you keep on beating him like this he's getting hurt two, if it goes to a decision why hasn't he stopped the fight, I don't get why, so maybe you shouldn't leave it to the referee, Now you're not going to take him out to the face, you are going to take him out to the boddy Eubanks exact words. And if you watched the fight Blackwell was all but finished by head shots and Eubanks was winning the fight so no need to go to the boddy he would have finished it by continuing to land head punches you will also see jnr eased off. The camera that looks on the corner is the one on the boom and the writers control what is captured and what is broadcast so n Eubanks would not have known if the camera was on him and he doesn't look in the direction of the camera either

I do think it was a tactical response rather than compassionate. But I believe later Snr was asking the ref to stop it. Whatever. The Eubanks love publicity and they've had plenty of mileage out of this. Jnr's responses seem a little colder.

From my perspective I thought it was a reasonable time to stop the fight. Blackwell never looked 'hurt'....he always came back under pressure. The injury rightfully caused the stoppage. Of course it was a bruising fight and uppercuts are probably the worst punches to be hit with with regards to getting your brain rattled.

Blackwell is such a warrior, but was never staggered or looked in severe distress. If the injury hadn't happened, everyone would be talking about what a great fight it was, how tough Blackwell is and he never gave up, and that it was a good result for Eubank.

It's very easy to be wise after the event....

Can't say I heard any mention of the cards during the whole fight and snr showed no concern about his son loosing the fight, and I can't say I understand any strategy that says stop punching to the head and switch to the boddy, when you are clearly winning by punching to the head

He did not mention the word "cards" but twice he said he did not want it going to a decision. Said that after the 8th and 9th rounds.

At the end of the day who the fornicate knows for sure? It most fair to say it was a bit of both.

How many times as Sr. said that refs need to look after jr apponents ? He even said to black wells face in the pre fight press conference I'm worried you will get hurt, the ref needs to look after you. During the fight he is told to shut it by victor for begging him to stop the fight and in between roads he warns jr that he will hurt him but he is bullshitting and not compassionate, just wants the lime light?

Maybe in the back of his mind he knows during a fight like that it isn't great advice to come flat out and say, no more punches to the head and try's telling jr he needs the stopage and you will get that with a body shot . On top of course he wants the win for Jr , goes with out saying
