Andy Townend
Andy Townend
Great performance from Andy Townend at the weekend, how far can he go? I've seen him a few times in Doncaster and he's looked good, obviously carries a lot of power.
Possibly British title soon? I saw Liam Walsh might be vacating to take on Flanagan at LW so maybe for the vacant title?

Re: Andy Townend
I fancy him to win a British or Comminwealth by the end of the year.
Huge puncher at domestic level.

Re: Andy Townend
He can certainly bang but I think with the right game plan he can b out boxed. Glover his pervious opponent looked good at distance for 3 rounds but then decided to stand and trade and that's wen Townend Imo is dangerous. His Deffo in the mix for a British shot but that depends on Walsh. Troy James is mandatory so it troy plus one for vacant title If Walsh vacates.

Re: Andy Townend
Getting better everytime cracking lad Andy not one for talking just loves to fight defo think he could win a British he's on a cracking run at minute and for anyone who fights him i wouldn't look to much into the couple of losses he had they was early on ever since his baby was born a couple of year ago it sparked some real life into him and I think he takes some beating at British level
Re: Andy Townend
Walsh is tricky and hits hard on the counter, I'd like to see Andy get in the mix though - Troy James has plenty of power, that would be a good bout.

And me wud fancy troy but wudnt b shocked if Townend won.
Re: Andy Townend
I would think the British Title would either be Maxi Hughes or Ronnie Clark as they both have won eliminators.. I know Andy has fought a Commonwealth eliminator. I can't see Andy fighting Maxi plus positioning himself with Matchroom moves him out of the picture as the titles are elsewhere. Boxing is all about politics.
Re: Andy Townend
But neither are signed to fw so the politics wont come into it if Walsh vacate or gets stripped also Martin j ward has won a eliminator.daviddee wrote:I would think the British Title would either be Maxi Hughes or Ronnie Clark as they both have won eliminators.. Why wudnt Townend fight maxi...
Re: Andy Townend
Townend just fought on a matchroom card.. I would think Frank would sign whoever won the title.. Wards eliminator was too long ago.. I would think the board will either do a final eliminator to face Troy or one of they 2.. Ronnie lost a split decision in a very close fight and that fight makes sense... As for Maxi and Townend.. They train together now or camps are very close.. I've seen Townend a few times he's improving a lot very big for the weight. I think he needs a few more fights before going in with the likes of Troy, Ward or Ronnie. I think the board need to push a decision with Walsh and get these titles activemaley1984 wrote:But neither are signed to fw so the politics wont come into it if Walsh vacate or gets stripped also Martin j ward has won a eliminator.daviddee wrote:I would think the British Title would either be Maxi Hughes or Ronnie Clark as they both have won eliminators.. I agree the board need to push the titles on. But can't see how they can dismiss ward wen he holds a victory over maxi in a eliminator.
As for Townend his on a run of wins at English title level against decent opponents and he we avoided by Mitchel smith wen he was made mandatory. I can't see your point on him needing a few fights before his ready for the named fighters.
Re: Andy Townend
Townend's beaten Sean Dodd, Peter Cope, Femi Fehintola, Lee Glover and Craig Poxton over the last 2 years, best run by a distance of anyone in contention to fight James for the belt if Walsh vacates.maley1984 wrote:daviddee wrote:Townend just fought on a matchroom card.. I agree mate.
Re: Andy Townend
Disagree Dodd was poor at Super Feather better at lightweight he lost the initial fight and expect him to lose again to cardle. The rest are not the greatest examples. He also lost to Randall Munroexpe wrote:Townend's beaten Sean Dodd, Peter Cope, Femi Fehintola, Lee Glover and Craig Poxton over the last 2 years, best run by a distance of anyone in contention to fight James for the belt if Walsh vacates.maley1984 wrote:daviddee wrote:

Yeah but counter that run of wins against Ronnie and maxi run of wins. Yes Ronnie has a few away draws in tough fights and push lads close but his best wins Imo are at a lower level than Townend.

Re: Andy Townend
Lost to munroe after only 7 or 8 fights and munroe had not long since before had a fight with quigg for the interim wba title so shame in losing that fight townend had munroe in sticky situations at times but munroe was just too much experience for the fight novice and at the time of the fight he would have beaten any other 7 fight novice also townend is definitely worthy a shot at the British or commonwealth

Re: Andy Townend
Townend would stop Ronnie.
Re: Andy Townend
It's all about opinions.. I don't think Andy has fought about actual live opponent.. Maxi fought Fryers in his last fight who is undefeated... Ronnie fought the Scottish lightweight champion for the Super Feather title.. Munroe lost a super bantam then at Featherweight and was stopped at both. I agree Andy has improved but until he fights someone like Maxi, Ronnie, Ward, Cacacae, Simpson or Fryers then we can see where he is actually at.. Could of had Ronnie at anytime you know how hard a fight that is. Hopefully see Andy in the mix win or losedhb-raging bull wrote:Lost to munroe after only 7 or 8 fights and munroe had not long since before had a fight with quigg for the interim wba title so shame in losing that fight townend had munroe in sticky situations at times but munroe was just too much experience for the fight novice and at the time of the fight he would have beaten any other 7 fight novice also townend is definitely worthy a shot at the British or commonwealth

Re: Andy Townend
If Ronnie thought munroe after only 7 fights he would have suffered the exact same fate as Andy I would love to Andy and Ronnie it's got cracker wrote all over it and as fir undefeated he stopped undefeated Dodd who controversialy lost a British title fight in his last fight maxi won a razor thin decision what could have gone either way I honestly believe if Andy connects he could put any domestic feather away he's got very heavy hands and also good at grinding fighters down feather domestically is a very good weight some cracking fights that could be on the horizon
Re: Andy Townend
Ryan Walsh is better than Randall Munro and most think Ronnie won that fight. I agree would be a cracker. Ronnie has a lot of power also. Hope this fight can happen in next few fightsdhb-raging bull wrote:If Ronnie thought munroe after only 7 fights he would have suffered the exact same fate as Andy I would love to Andy and Ronnie it's got cracker wrote all over it and as fir undefeated he stopped undefeated Dodd who controversialy lost a British title fight in his last fight maxi won a razor thin decision what could have gone either way I honestly believe if Andy connects he could put any domestic feather away he's got very heavy hands and also good at grinding fighters down feather domestically is a very good weight some cracking fights that could be on the horizon
Re: Andy Townend
There's no denying that Ronnie is a good fighter who boxes away from home and doesn't always get the nod in a close fight. Andy Townend is on a run of destructive performances and seems to be boxing with a lot of confidence, I think Walsh is a bit too clever but there's some very good possible match ups.
