Classic fights I've watched recently

Agree stoney. Along with hagler, I'd also say Saldivar had the best southpaw jab I have seen, especially impressive as he wasn't the tallest. His control of distance and angles using the jab was phenomenal.

Have you seen him against Sugar Ramos? Maybe the best indicator of his technical ability off the back foot. He was the matador to the bull in that one. Saldivar might've been the most versatile of the great Mexican champs.

Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson 1+2

I thought the 1st fight was excellent,up there with the other HW championship fights,right from the off both guys got to work no feeling out process,just throwing bombs with bad intensions,Holyfield was inspired that night,he wouldnt let Tyson's ability or reputation intimidate him and he ended up giving him a beating

2nd fight well....Evander was boaring in with the head but Mike just lost it and shouldve been DQ'd after the 1st bite,he did seem to be having his best round in the 3rd too but id fancy Holyfield to stop him if it continued

I was a bit dissapointed that the 3 KD rule was in effect for the Barklay fight as it was shaping up to be one of they mad bouts where anyone couldve been proper KO'd at any given time,also Benn was lucky top get away with hitting Iran when he was already down,as crazy as the fight was,it couldve been a classic like Naz/Kelley

DeWitt scored a cracking KD but apart from that it was all Nigel

Agree on both mate, Barkley was shocked by the power at first but I believe he was about to come into it. We shall never know

I watched both fights recently,the rematch was fun too but i agree it was a cracking turnaround from Moore in the 1st fight,he was flat on his back at the count of 7 during one KD

Antonio "Kid Pambele" Cervantes vs Nicolino "El Intocable" Locche

Thought I'd watch an absolute defensive masterclass from Locche.
Didn't realise there was a sequel to the first fight and this is what I watched

Locche's corner sneakily threw the towel in as he went to walk out for the tenth, he looked fornicating furious


Edit, watched Cervantes KO of Victor Ortiz to get a better impression of Antonio.
Ortiz was custom made for him, walking forward, giving him something to hit.
Cervantes looked more like I expected. A solid, accurate puncher, who effectively dismantled his man

I watched Foreman v Cooney, it's easy to slip into the idea that George was a big, fat joke but that man hit like a missile and some of the angles he created showed a real understanding of Boxing. The last 2 punches, the left uppercut and a right hand were pinpoint and ridiculously hard.

Benn's 'American adventure' was perhaps the high point of the Destroyer's career for me.

He was a real force of nature in these tough, away day fights and it is still the reason why I rate Nigel's overall achievements above Eubank's.
Benn was in with DeWitt and Barkley 'stateside - as well as Galvano in Italy which needed a KO win - and I respect that greatly.

DeWitt was a proper tough SOB as well; almost a 'throwback' to some of the hard white American middleweights of the 50s and early 60s. I watched the fight and respected the way DeWitt was not cowed and took Nigel on...ultimately he was a wee bit slow and predictable for our Nige.
