1 mil is pretty good for Ward fighting an unknown opponent. What did GGG draw against Monroe, 1.3 mil ?

TBH I don't even have a clue what he looks like, for me, if it ain't a heavyweight, it doesn't count. But have fun in Mexico or whatever, congratz on the money he's making.

Yeah, I'm not sure what those figures mean in context, however I'm certain that it's nothing like what 1 million PPV's would mean.

Nothing close to being the same as 1 million PPV buys. For an elite fighter who already had major TV exposure 1.064 m on HBO is hardly anything special, even against an opponent like Barrera.

And WTF about the Rafael part of that video....the guy is a big Ward supporter and praised him highly for the performance. Some people just love to complain and play the victim.

Nothing special, but it probably exceeded expectations taking into account how boring Ward is and how seldom he has been fighting.

I don't know for sure what the expectations were, but it's hard for me to believe that the HBO consensus is that those are particularly good numbers for an elite guy they have pushed hard. He also keeps getting paid around $2m for his fights ($1.85m for this one, over $2m for Rodriguez) when his career best viewership numbers didn't even surpass GGG-Monroe.

It's like numbers would be for allegedly. Not horrible, but less than GGG or Kovalev do. People don't watch Boxing over here for the most part.

Quick bit of maths, these supposedly good figures are 1/3 what Uchiyama got on tape delay for his last fight....yet fighters are expected to travel for "exposure" and a larger audience.

I.understand fighters traveling for a payday, but with HBO slashing their budget on boxing a payday doesn't seen assured any more and the audience seems to be dwindling.

This is pathetic!. . . .Ali and Frazier did over 300 million in pay-per-view purchases when people had to go to theaters in 1971. I would not celebrate these recent numbers as great. . . . Interest in boxing has just been bumping along the bottom for years. . . Perhaps when the new heavyweights of Wilder, Fury, Joshua, Parker and a few others develop rivalries will we see a renewal.. . . Viewership in China will average about 50 million and peak over 200 million for televised events there.

True but it's a okay number for HBO standards lately, and it'd be a monster suçess if this was Showtime, who couldn't hit 400k with Jacobs Quillin, or 300k with Degale Bute. None of these basic cable shows are hitting 1m either, most far lower
