The WBA sickens me.
As I said before their last fight, neither is a top 25 HW. Chagaev's belly hangs down like a big sack of grain.

It seems fairly inevitable that Chagaev will meet Oquendo next.
The WBA state in their rules: “No boxer who has tested positive for prohibitive substances can be rated, retain a title, or be permitted to fight in a sanctioned bout for a period of no less than six months from the date of the positive test.”
It also states: “If the challenger wins the world championship bout and his anti-drug test is positive and the losing champions has a negative result, then, the champion shall retain his title no matter losing it, and the challenger shall be disqualified and shall not be able to fight for a World Boxing Association title during the next two years, previous presentation of medical evidence proving his rehabilitation.”
That being the case, unless there is a major revelation regarding Lucas Browne's positive test, the champion, Chagaev, will meet the mandatory challenger, Oquendo.

Looks like it will be chagaev against Fres.
Shame they didn't just upgrade Ortiz but as mentioned above due to WBA rules Chagaev keeps title.

It's the WBA, they've always had a hard on for Chagaev and there's a court order in place for Oquendo to fight for the title.Boxing Prospect wrote:...wait...people think a boxing body will follow it's own rules....?

Fvck, this is soooooo LAME!
The WBA are going to have a guy who just got knocked out fight a guy he already beat who hasn't fought in 2 years for a 'World' title.
Just get rid of that stupid title! We all know Fury is the real WBA champ. If they want a secondary-type title, just make something like the WBC's Silver title. The WBC makes everything up as they go as well, but at least they aren't daft enough to have a 'World' title that isn't one. This just makes the WBA look even worse compared to their counterparts.

Gotta love boxing. They owe Fred one anyway cause he was ripped off of that title back in the day against Chris Byrd. I thought Fast Fres clearly won that fight.

This is like the WBA copper title.

Actually the WBC Silver title is recognized as a 'world' title by them - it says so on their belt.chucktaylor wrote:Fvck, this is soooooo LAME!

Ok, well that is pretty stupid too then, but least they call it the Silver title, so there is something apparent in the name that designates it as a lesser title.SteveO wrote:Actually the WBC Silver title is recognized as a 'world' title by them - it says so on their belt.chucktaylor wrote:Fvck, this is soooooo LAME!

There is a court order in place that made Oquendo the mandatory and therefore he gets to fight for the title.
There is no ambiguity about that and no amount of moaning will change it.
