Nick Blackwell wakes from coma and speaks to family

Post by Like a Boss »

Nick Blackwell has woken from his induced coma and has been speaking to his family, following his fight with Chris Eubank Jr last week.

Blackwell woke from the induced coma on Saturday and by Sunday was talking to family and friends at his bedside, promoters Hennessey Sports yesterday said.

They also revealed Blackwell had suffered a bleed on the skull and not the brain as initially reported. In a statement the firm said: “It was the outcome everyone had been hoping and praying for; Nick had won his toughest fight yet...He’s a fighter. He’s a warrior. He’s a true champion and gentleman. “On behalf of Nick, his family, and very close friends, we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and well-wishes. It has been overwhelming at times and has certainly not gone unnoticed.”

The referee stopped the fight on 26 March after the advice of the doctor, who said Blackwell was unable to continue because of swelling over his left eye.

Blackwell was carried from the ring on a stretcher and taken to St Mary’s hospital in London.

During the fight, Chris Eubank Sr had urged his son to avoid more blows to Blackwell’s head.

I did not know that Eubank Sr. told him not to hit him in the head anymore. I am starting to wonder that when these large swelling occur like they did in this fight and say Holyfield vs. Rahmen if the fight should not be stopped right away.

My mates mrs is a nurse and she told him that the swelling would have been the bleed on the brain,in saying it turned out it was a bleed on the skull, maybe its a similar thing, the symptoms i mean

Anyone remember Wolak's swollen eye when he fought Rodriguez? That got to continue until the end and that was worse than Lebedev's when he fought Jones

Great call I could not remember what fight that was. I was like how could this fight not be stopped?

Wasn't Lebedev's vs. Perez though?

Those pictures look very promising. He's talking, Smiling and he can move his hands, arms and fingers. Thank God. I had a brain bleed/stroke 5 years ago. I'd hate to see him go through something like that.
