should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
don't know how that would work technically
though. i for one find it annoying to converse
with multiple personalities simultaneously.

Yes, but it's no simple task; there are so many ways to remain hidden on the internet.
Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
Yes, but most of multiple account owners are dummies and won't be able to do that.punchoutsb wrote:Yes, but it's no simple task; there are so many ways to remain hidden on the internet.

They'll probably bet you money or a boxrec ban or something
Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
I find it hard to fathom that this forum would be so important to someone as to prompt them to invest the time and energy required to keep track of mutliple accounts. However, that is probably just an indication of my naivete. Were just talking boxing here, right? I mean this isn't even that important within the world of sports...
Bottom line, no way we are talking about more than a couple of people here at the most, in my opinion.

If someone's life is so devoid of anything but the Boxrec forum, let them live.
Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
I used to be a moderator/admin on a forum and in most cases it's quite easy to identify users with more than one account.
In the cases where it is happening and quite obvious that they are a repeat offender and someone who has either been banned previously for trolling or someone who is using multiple accounts to cause disruption on the board, they should be and can be blocked.

Of course the thread starter and all those who commented (including me) are the same person...

No. However they should clamp down on obvious trolling.
Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
Brut/KBB/KoolKC/undefeated49&0 is a sad individual. I'm not sure why he keeps making new accounts. I know he's been banned but boxrec must mean alot to him, an integral part of his sad life.

Not really, everyone can have a annoying brother in the house with the same IP. Most of the proxies are traceble, because such IPs are usually well more known on google as the avarage home IP.
If someone really makes so much efford just to spam, or annoy, or whatever on this forum, then you can't stop them anyway.
You can't be perfect in preventing terrorist attacks either.

Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
That is true, but some reasonable effort could be made which would probably stop 80-90% of these multiple account owners.asdfjkl wrote:Not really, everyone can have a annoying brother in the house with the same IP. Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
If you think anyone has multiple aliases then please send me a private message and I will investigate it. However, it can sometimes be difficult to prove, unless they have posted via the same ip address. We have actively banned numerous multiple aliases in the past.
Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
Other than Brut it's not really a problem. I like boxrec for being a relatively small community of pretty knowledgable boxing fans. I don't post in boxing history but i often enjoy just reading some of the discussion. Putting up with Brut/KoolKC is a small annoyance at most.
Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
Yes.
Mods can control it though. If anyone bitches about it, bitch to the mods...its not like they can't check IP addresses. If different IP addresses you know the troll is working hard lol.
To me it is absolutely ridiculous. Stupid dumb asses with no job or friends just wanting attention, good or bad. Whatever. Everywhere you go are stupid people. Learn to deal with it.

Re: should boxrec actively prevent multiple accounts?
Is it public knowledge??? Mods, tell us who has multiple or duplicate accounts? Do I have to file for the Freedom of Information Act?

what happened the other day was that iThe Law wrote:If you think anyone has multiple aliases then please send me a private message and I will investigate it. stopped posting in a thread because i
could not identify whether someone had
a conversation with himself within it and
it was remarkably annoying.
i pass by here pretty frequently, but then
again not often enough to have intensive
"relationships". i simply forget sometimes
who the idiots are and who are multiples
of these in one.
i don't want to denounce anyone. saad made
the point that if this forum is so important to
some to go to lengths like managing multiple
identities, then may they do so. hadn't see it
like that myself, but i find it a beautiful way of
looking at things and i rest my case.
