Pacquiao won against Mayweather
Pacquiao won against Mayweather
when i watched the fight live, i had it a draw, also i was so dissapointed in the fight that i didnt realy care who won.
now, i found this video, counting the punches landed, thats basicly all you need to know, becaus at the end, no matter offenive game or defensice tricks, at the end what counts is, who landed more punches, who landed more punche won the fight, manny landed more, won the fight.

Is that the only criteria for scoring a fight now?
Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
It's tough to say anyone "won" that stink out of a fight, but don't see the point in going over old ground. it amazes me fans find 7 or more rounds for Floyd in the Pacquaio, Maidana and JLC fights. Causing inaction isn't enough to lay claim to a round.

No but clean punches landed is by far the most important. Ring generalship and effective agression are controversial and subjective criteria. Defense is a bit pointless as whoever gets hit by more "clean punches" essential has a less effective defense.
Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
I thought Floyd won and the fight was terrible. I did think it was a lot closer than the announcers and scorecards made it out to be.

Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
I saw it 8 rounds to 4 (116-112) for Mayweather. I thought it was a pretty clear cut decision. Fight wasn't as boring as it's made out to be people just expecting too much out of it and paying out the ass for it were pissed.
Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
I accepts that, but it's not just about counting punches landed.Ricky_ wrote:davie wrote:Chepppaaa wrote:at the end what counts is, who landed more punches, who landed more punche won the fight,

It's the effectiveness of those punches. Jabs vs power punches, are they hurtful punches? etc
one guy can throw 30 punches and land 20, the other guy can throw 25 and land 15 but if they are a better quality of punch, they rock the head back, hurt the opponent more visibly, I'd be inclined to score him the round over someone who is just laying gloves on an opponent for the sake of landing scoring punches.
Equally, is the opponent rolling with the punches and tyaking the sting out of them
I appreciate that isn't a very valid criteria for judging Floyd vs Pacquiao as neither scored shots which were game changers, but still if people are going to say Pacquiao won because he landed 5 shots more than Floyd it's starting to get silly
Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
OK, I got as far as round 4 in that video and he scored round 4 23 punches to 7.
There is not a hope in hell there was 30 clean punches scored in that round. Many of the punches he has rewarded barely touch the man, catch part of the guard etc No fornicating way did Pacquiao score 23 clean punches in that round, not even close.
I'll watch the remainder, but there is a clear pattern emerging here
***edit*** OK watched the rest and here's Davies tuppence worth
Without analysis it punch by punch and seeing it all in slow motion.
On one viewing I've seen punches scored for Pacquiao, punches that were fully or partially blocked being scored, some that just barely made contact as Floyd was moving back and punches that I genuinely don't think you can say for certain even made actual contact.
I saw exchanges where both men touched the opponent with a glove yet only Manny's points tally went up.
One viewing and I can punch holes in that video.
I had it 8-4 to Mayweather first time round. I could see the argument for it being closer. I could almost stretch to someone scoring it a draw.
I, as a Pacquiao fan and Mayweather critic, personally can't see a case for Manny winning.
But to have it 8-4 to Manny and having him scoring almost DOUBLE the scoring punches is just laughable.
That video is pish and proves nothing

Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
I seem to recall scoring the fight either 9-3 or 8-4 to Mayweather at the time, I probably posted as much on here but can't be bothered to search my old posts right now.
This thread isn't even clever trolling, I can't remember Pacquiao landing many clean punches in the whole fight let alone more than Mayweather...

that finally the talk about that fight has
gone for good.
what you are raising was discussed in
ridiculous detail. i think purist was on
the forefront with this.
i for one had it a very close fight that
could go either way. i do believe floyd
got the nod because people learned to
appreciate his style so much that they
give him points for being passive.
since i had it close i had no problem
with floyd winning, but i found the way
he got praised pretty overblown to say
the least.
it was the one fight i kept awake all night
and kind of regret that, because i had
hoped for something ali-frazier in a way.

Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
Watching the fight livr in a noisy pro-Manny pub I scored the fight narrowly to Manny, but thought it no robbery, though the cards were too wide.
I rewatched the fight with UK commentary which I thought was ridiculously pro Floyd. That time I scored it to Floyd by a single point, which I think was more accurate.
I maintain it was a close fight, but Floydd deserved the nod more.

Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
I watched it twice by my self at home once with no commentary once with commentary it was back and fourth for the first 6 rounds I had it 3-3 then Floyd took over and won 6,7,8,9,10,11,12

Re: Pacquiao won against Mayweather
This is hardly even worth commenting on but seeing as though people still can't accept the fact that Manny lost and Floyd won easily by a very huge margin that I feel i had to get my little worthless two cents in.
You can tell when Floyd win a fight by judging from the crowd reaction, the Pacquiao fans were totally silent, even I was begging for Manny to do more/something/anything just to try and make a fight out of it but he didn't and he got thoroughly outboxed for all but two rounds (4th and 6th) and let's not even bother to talk about the rest of the criteria for scoring:
Ring Generalship (this was in no way, shape or form a Manny fight at all)<<<Floyd dominated in that category.
Effective Aggression-Manny had two moments in the fight where he won it easily in the 4th and 6th but outside of that he was coming forward and being mostly ineffective due to missing 3 times as much as he landed.
Defense-can this really even be up for debate when everyone can clearly see the frustration Pacquiao was wearing on his face and we all know Mayweather is a defensive wizard who does this to all of his opponents.
Other than the 4th and the 6th there was no other point where Manny was able to clearly dominate and get the crowd to the point where we felt like he was even remotely close to winning.
By the reaction of the crowd, his own Corner/Freddie Roach it was clearly evident that Manny needed a Hail Mary KO otherwise he was going to lose and lose big which he did.

yeah it could have gone either way.no matter who won, real doesnt matter, the fans were the loser.
i hope just for 30 % of ali-frazier, but it was more 5 % of ali-frazier, very unsatisfiying and floyd wounders why everybody disliks him...

you do not understand that it is not that
"people can't accept the fact", but that one
can have a different opinion from yours and
still be a reasonable person.
pretending that everyone is an idiot who does
question whether it was a shutout for floyd is
plain and simple stupid by itself. hence the
difference, i do not say it is stupid to have a
shut out for floyd, but it is to see that it was
such a clear shut out round for round that no
alternative interpretation is possible. even if
you say it was a shut out you HAVE to admit
that many rounds floyd has won were no
shut out rounds.
i learned here that with a certain type there
is no conversation possible on that subject,
to you floyd is more a religion than a boxer
it seems.

The fight is over, no need to rehash a thread that has already been done here on a subject that was beaten to death, all he is doing is beating the dead horse all over again.
No, all I offered was my opinion and now you (one of my Trolls) is here twisting my words just so you can start garbage on the forum.
You disagree with me then say so but say so without twisting my words.

Makes no sense to me, there are far more important things going on right now in the sport that could or should be talked about that is far more relevant to boxing at the moment concerning active fighters than to be talking about a retired fighter and a soon (after Saturday) to be retired fighter.
Wouldn't you agree??
