Frampton Stripped of WBA title

Post by Stuarty »

The WBA have stripped Carl for failing to respond to their enquiries about facing their mandatory challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux. It's looking more and more likely that Carl will vacate his IBF title and move up to feather with rumours of possible bouts with LSC and Lee Selby doing the rounds. His last two outings at SuperBantam have been below par by his standards so maybe a move up is the only option?

Who do you all think he should face next and what do you reckon Quigg will do next? Will he chase Frampton to feather or try and go straight back in for one of the two vacant titles?

True. He never had any intention of defending it. I don't blame him one bit to be honest.

The WBA belt at this division is a complete farce, even more of a farce than their heavyweight champions.

I do blame him.

He should fight Rigondeaux.

I don't blame him for not defending against Rigo. But constantly swiping at Quigg for not doing it, then not doing it yourself just shows them up. Either way Quigg and Frampton have made their couple of million each so I doubt getting less than half a mill to fight Rigo will ever appeal now.

All fake champs should be stripped. No good running around claiming you are the world champion while ducking the best fighter in the division.

It is also a stupid move. If he goes up to fight Leo Santa Cruz he will loose anyway and probably will get mashed in the process. Better to loose to a p4p then to another duck.

Frampton will earn more money fighting LSC and LSC will turn up. fornicate Rigo. Him and his team have made a rod for their own back after the Dickens fiasco. I have a feeling Frampton may be struggling at the weight too.

The WBA is going down so low it will soon rename itself the WBU.... People will stop caring about the WBA as a serious governing body..... Ps who runs it now? And does he have an expensive Coke habit?

pfft, how can people not blame him for not defending against rigo?

he is a fighter, he should fight his mandatories and fight the best.

course he should fight rigondeaux

he won't care about the belt because he never wanted to right guillermo anyway

He'd get a lot more money fighting LSC. Why not take the money fight? It's a short career. I actually think going up a weight to take on LSC in the U.S. Is just as difficult as fighting Rigo at home in Belfast.

If by your logic he's going to lose to both anyway then that's all the more reason to take the most lucrative fight is it not?

I did not say he would loose to Rigo. I think he might have a better chance against him because of styles as wells as size and physicality of Leo.

On a general note I appreciate fighters that go for achievements rather then those that go for money. But more importantly for me its important that someone that ducks the best in the division is not called the world champion. You can be a British champ if thats all your ambition is or a PBC champ, no problem.

Didn't Frampton already say he was moving up to Featherweight?

You said Rigo was the best in the division (which is your opinion btw) and also said 'Better to lose to a p4p than to another duck'. Perhaps I've picked you up wrong. I also appreciate a fighter for his achievements and IMO it's a better achievement to go up a division and take on a young hungry champion whilst possibly becoming a two weight world champion and earning loads more money in the process. I know what the vast majority of folk would do if faced with the same dilemma.

I would love to see the Rigo fight same as yourself but if Carl's struggling to make the weight and he can earn a lot more by stepping up then it's a no brainier for me. As you can probably guess I'm a big Frampton fan and if he were to stay at SuperBantam and fight anyone other than Rigo then I would agree that he's ducked the fight and deserves all the criticism that will no doubt come his way.

He should fight Rigondeaux, regardless of alphabet baubles.

If he doesn't it will always be remembered that he ducked the best out there.

It isn't even comparable to the GGG situation where people duck him because they might get hurt, Rigo isn't a scary dude, he's just avoiding him because he's too talented.

And moving up to featherweight isn't a valid excuse either. He's been at SBW long enough and hasn't faced him.

With LSC and Frampton moving and Quigg losing, Rigo might think what's there to gain staying at SBW and chase them all up to featherweight and continue to highlight how big a shower of gutless duckers they all are.

And before anyone says it, yes I would fight Rigo! :OhYes:

Finbar was never going to let the golden goose near Rigo. I'm expecting he'll defend his IBF against Shingo Wake in Belfast.

You cant be a two weight world champion without being one weight world champ first. And he aint that.

As for making weight just look at him man. Does he look like a featherweight to you? He is small as it is. He has a big fvcking head, I'll give him that, but his body is diminutive. No way he has problem making weight. Which FW he is going to beat? Leo? Selby? Loma? He better leave his tiny ass where it is. If he moves up he is finished. Mark my words.

Sorry I thought he won the IBF and WBA titles? I must've had a bang to the head! It's a matter of opinion who is the best at SuperBantam. Nothing more. It's simply speculation until they fight. I think Frampton beats Rigo. That's my opinion. If yours differs from mine then fair enough. Can argue all night but we won't know til it happens.

I think he would beat LSC at feather yeah I do. Depending on what Lee Selby turns up then he does him too. Montiel gave him all he could handle and Carl is on a level above Fernando these days.

As for the weight. He's 29 years old and not the tallest but stocky and pure muscle. How do you How easy he makes the weight? Do you have inside knowledge? I'm just going by what I've read and heard. Just because he's a certain height doesn't necessarily mean he makes the weight easy. That isn't how it works.

Your opinion. My opinion is that if he were to move up and fight a taller, younger, naturally bigger guy in LSC over in the U.S. and wins then that eclipses beating Rigo in Belfast. Rigo is a lovely boxer but I think folk lick his rusty button a bit too much.

Rigo is the lineal champion at super bantamweight. Santa Cruz is a paper champion at featherweight.

There is no comparison, beating Rigo would be a far greater achievement.
