Well yeah, it's definitely the biggest fight of the year so far. It'll be surpassed by Fury/Klitchko II and Wilder/Povetkin when they happen. But I don't think there has been a bigger fight in 2016 so far.expe wrote:Rob3_142 wrote: biggest fight of the year?![]()

Or not as Hennessy and K2 refuse to put that much money into the undercard. We can go round in circles all we like here, we have no confirmation that the fight is in Manchester. No confirmation on whether allegedly are going to screen it and certainly no confirmation that Quernsbury promotions are in any way involved in the promotion of the event.expe wrote: When else is he going to fight? Realistically the plan would have been for him to fight at the same venue, on the same channel, on a date close to July 9th. They could either go ahead with that and try and go up against Crolla on May 7th and Klitschko-Fury on July 9th, almost certainly affecting the ticket sales, or have him as chief support on a massive show in his home city, which would be a big boost to his profile.
As for when else is he going to fight? I don't know. Possible one of the other weekends of the year.
Re: Tyson Fury (c) vs. Wladimir Klitschko 2 - July 9th 2016
Fury was just standing around looking at him through a lot of that fight too. Wladimir could've thrown punches, and just didn't. Had nothing to do with Fury not letting him, he just didn't do it.Rexob wrote:gilgamesh wrote:I can't believe somebody watched that first fight and actually believes Wlad gave his best effort. No Fury won't let him, if Wlad comes at him he's just going to get knockout simples.

This year has been one of the weakest years of Boxing I've ever seen. There's been virtually no major fights that people are clamoring for, and there's still really none on the horizon.Rob3_142 wrote:Well yeah, it's definitely the biggest fight of the year so far. Povetkin vs Wilder is the closest thing. That and Thurman vs Porter
Quigg vs Frampton was big too
Re: Tyson Fury (c) vs. Wladimir Klitschko 2 - July 9th 2016
Frampton-Quigg, Pacquiao-Bradley, Alvarez-Khan, Wilder-Povetkin, Fury-Klitschko and there's several others that are probably bigger too like Lebedev-Ramirez.Rob3_142 wrote:Well yeah, it's definitely the biggest fight of the year so far. It's two heavyweights, neither of which have much claim to being in the top 20 in the world, fighting for a trinket that became available when the champion was unable to fight the mandatory due to a contractual obligation, then the belt was won because the other fighter fell over and hurt his knee. It's drawn in a lot of mongy casuals, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't really a big fight in any way.
Re: Tyson Fury (c) vs. Wladimir Klitschko 2 - July 9th 2016
I always had a feeling that Sky would swerve this one, many people thought the first fight was dull(especially casuals) and Joshua is likely to do big numbers tomorrow and the summer and Hearn might get something sorted for Kell on ppv in the summer. The next time Fury will be on Sky ppv is for the Joshua fight when it happens.Fury hasn`t got the credit he deserves for the Wlad win and if Joshua wins tomorrow is a lesser draw then despite being the real champion.Sky and most of the media are in the Anthony Joshua business not the Tyson fury business.I hope it`s not on allegedly as I will be in London that night and it will be a bugger to find somewhere showing it

if WK was able to throw and land punches, why on earth wouldn't he do so? I think it's extremely clear that TF was negating anything that WK could attempt. Of course he was, if anybody couldn't see that they don't know shi.t about boxing.

I didn't say Fury wasn't following a gameplan, but that doesn't mean Wlad did his best or even half his best. The guy just flat out didn't fight. It was plain as day obvious. He DID NOT FIGHT.surfthehurf wrote:if WK was able to throw and land punches, why on earth wouldn't he do so? I think it's extremely clear that TF was negating anything that WK could attempt. It's easy to follow a gameplan when you're fighting somebody that ain't doing sh*t.

There was this dude on a site I used to post on, fucken hated mayweather,.used to insist over and over that all Floyd had was a game plan, it was funny like thats all there was to it, nobody ever had the sense to, like, counter-gameplan

Frampton-Quigg (the only fight in your list so far to have happened) was arguably a bigger fight if the weight divisions were equal (which they're not), but this fight is still probably the biggest fight in the world this year to date. Whether or not the boxing calendar has been any good up to now is completely irrelevant. Although I don't know exactly what kind of coverage AJ has in the States, he is definitely making waves across the world, and he's fighting the IBF champion (again, whether or not he deserved the title, is completely irrelevant, because he has it, and that is the long and short of it).

In Germany I would favour Klitchsko, in the UK I'm not so sure.

I'm not sure that it would be a massively anti Wlad crowdBodyshot3 wrote:Think it will be properly interesting to see how Wlad - at this late stage of his career - will react to a huge stadium fight where he's the challenger and there's a noisy, partisan and passionate British fight crowd.
A big fight in the UK is an entirely different kettle of fish to all those German stadium fights...he'll feel a thousand miles away from home and I am guessing he'll have a fairly small bunch of supporters as well.
The tables will be turned - it will be WK under siege - and I think we'll get a real measure of the guy.

Fury wasn't allowing him
And more importantly, I don't think Wlad could do what he wanted to because he's 40 years old. Not enough is made of his age imo. Wasn't that long ago that Lennox Lewis was declared way past his best at 37, and to be fair he was. Wlad is past his best and has been for a number of years now.
I think he would be foolish to take the rematch. Fury will beat him even more convincingly if they do it again.
Re: Tyson Fury (c) vs. Wladimir Klitschko 2 - July 9th 2016
All that could happen is he'd beat him As convincingly, if Wlad just shows up and stands there again he loses, if he shows up and fights. He wins.lillywhite14 wrote:Wlad wasn't doing much in some people's eyes down to two things -gilgamesh wrote:I didn't say Fury wasn't following a gameplan, but that doesn't mean Wlad did his best or even half his best. I'll be more more worried about Tyson getting carried away. Last time it was away from home and nobody thought he could do it.
Re: Tyson Fury (c) vs. Wladimir Klitschko 2 - July 9th 2016
Wladamir cannot do the same thing again, and do not expect him to. His chips are already down, and he needs to fight like a man that's got everything to gain. Klitchko has always fought in the past with control, but it felt like Fury took that away from him. Fury's excellent movement and long jab meant that Klitchko couldn't get close enough to get his 1-2 combo in.
He is 40, but he looks in better shape than Fury. He just needs to throw caution to the wind, and go for broke. Once he's got Fury on the back foot he'll force him to fight back, creating more openings.

Whilst I agree with the general sentiment, Wlad hasn't taken a single risk in the ring for around a decade, so it's difficult to imagine him suddenly throwing caution to the wind at this late stage of his career.Rob3_142 wrote:Wladamir cannot do the same thing again, and do not expect him to. And, of course, the previous result might have just been down to 40 year old Wlad being unable to pull the trigger, in which case again it's unlikely he'll be able to fix it in the rematch.
There's no doubt for me that prime Wlad would have beaten prime Fury, but those days seem to be long gone.
