Heavyweights: Buster Douglas vs Razor Ruddock

Depends, for me, on Douglas' weight. Over 17 stone & I pick Ruddock to bully & batter him within six or seven rounds.

Under 17 stone & Buster looked like a different animal. As someone else mentioned, the smooth-rolling, jab-snapping Buster who...

Oh. I just remembered that David Hand Fricking Grenade Bey put him out in two in Bey's debut. Hmm. & I also seem to remember that he was overwhelmed late by Mike "The Giant" White.

Let's just think about that for a minute: Mike. The Giant. White.

So Dog knows. Impossible to predict with any degree of certainty. But I'd lean tentatively toward a Ruddock KO.

The Tyson win, by the way, I ascribe to an almost superhuman effort & concentration of will -- like little old ladies who lift lorries off of people after traffic accidents -- & the perfect physique & style to give Tyson nightmares: a tall guy with a kick-arse jab & fast hands. A marvellous abberration, fully deserved but unlikely to be repeated.

I always thought Buster had TREMENDOUS ability. Him and Greg Page may be the 2 boxers that come to mind that could have done alot more had they enjoyed training. Buster would shut Razor out, win 10 out of 12 rounds DEPENDING on if he evaded THE SMASH from Ruddock,(Buster didnt have the best chin, but wasn't the worst either) and if he was motivated that night

If Douglas fought with the same mindset that he did against Tyson yeah sure he would give ruddock a boxing lesson. The problem is Douglas only had one mother. I feel terrible for saying that. But Douglas was a typical modern heavyweight. A good athlete who choose boxing because his first sport which I think was basketball was not going to lead him to a career. Douglas was a Vitali before his time good enough to get there but not good enough to stay there.

Therefore I believe Feburary 10 1990 Douglas beats Ruddock no problems. But the Douglas that fought Tucker gets ko'd.

I saw the Douglas vs Tyson fight and still I cannot what I was seeing on TV after all these years. It was huge upset.

Against Tucker Douglas met a skillset more manifold than any version of Razor Ruddock. There was nothing predictable about Tucker's attacks and behind them was a bomb-proof chin.

Buster doled out boxing lessons to Mike Tyson, Greg Page, Oliver McCall, Trevor Berbick, Tex Cobb, Mike Williams. . . . at his best he knows enough to box rings around Razor Ruddock - and possibly KO him.

i dont think Douglas was that good really, sure he won the world title by stopping a washed up tyson but in terms of heavyweight greatness that is all he will be remembered by. Douglas was just damn lucky he fought tyson that night, im sure a lot of heavyweights would have KOed tyson that night or the next fight.

who had douglas fought prior to tyson? an aging trevor berbick, a loony toons mccall, and a bunch of nobodies. In reality i think douglas was hand picked for that fight, and wasn't supposed to win.

im not knocking douglas he did what he had to do, and i m sure ruddock was a better fighter.

At his best, Douglas would have beaten Ruddock. He was far more skilled. However, he usually didn't fight at his best. Ruddock probably would have won by a mid round knockout.

Douglas was a psychologically complex individual -- he had a history of losing to people he was supposed to beat (Mike White, Jesse Ferguson, even Tony Tucker (?)) and beating people he was supposed to lose to (Mike Williams, Mike Tyson). I'll never forget the way he dismantled Williams -- knocked him down with a jab!

So it's a tough call. My prediction: a Douglas favored to beat Ruddock loses; the Douglas brought in to lose wins!

Tyson is the most menacing and frightening fighter i'v seen in the last 40 year's and that in its self is saying something because boxing has had some scary men lace the glove's on... Ruddock included but to say the fear factor would be the think that defines who wins this fight is wrong like I said if someone overcame a fearsome man like Tyson who I believe was probably the most intimidating fighter i'v ever seen then one would think over coming his fear [if any] of Ruddock would be a stroll in the park in comparision and if Buster showed up in the same mind set and fit as he had against Tyson then I think Buster wins a entertaining but un dec......Buster Douglas when fit was a brilliant boxer/puncher if he showed up unfit then Ruddocks power would certainly give Buster problems but both motivated Buster was the better fighter.

Douglas never had any fear of any opponent. Did anyone ever see him look remotely tense? He had no fear of Mike Tyson, so the idea of him being afraid of Razor Ruddock is absurd.

They made a good team but Rooney was way overated as a trainer what has he done since?
