Worst Heavyweight Champion

Post by Syntax Error »

Sorry folks, it just had to be done (again) now that we've got a new contender for this mythical title.

Quite simply, who do you consider to be the worst heavyweight champion of all-time?

It can be a linear champion or a trinket holder, but who is it?

Just picked a random nine plus an other option.

Despite Charles Martin's worst efforts, my vote goes to the lamentable Bruce Seldon.

Could Leon Spinks have beaten Bruce Seldon both at their peak? Yeah probably so.

These are quite a good list of Losers.

By the way, I don't consider Douglas in this class......he would beat anyone on that list including quite a few not on that list.

Bruce Seldon is probably the only guy that ever lost his title to a strong breeze near his head so it's gotta be him.

Only lineal champs should be considered for a topic like this. The trinkets don't matter.

And I honestly have never heard of Martin and the Francesco dude.

I hear you.

Some of those guys were not bad fighters, but they all stank as HW champions/trinket holders & that's what I've based it on.

Im with you on this. I think Martin is the worst by far - he has nothing on his record really.

Why no fury on the list? Joshua will do the same thing to him or wlad.

Damiani was a superb boxer, who lost only to Mercer, after giving Ray a boxing lesson and McCall, who was a handful for anyone,

Damiani was OK. He was not a real champion either.
Seldon actually loked OK at times. He gave McCall a good fight.
I have no idea who Charles Martin is either. Didn't he used to play for the Packers?

There are dozens of WBS titleholders who were worse than Hart or Carnera.

Martin was an an alphabet belt holder. Not a champion. Same with several of these guys on the list. I have a hard time calling anyone a "world champion" when 0 percent of boxing fans consider them the best in this division, or maybe even, in Martin's case, a top 10 fighter in a weak heavyweight division.
Martin is poor. If you are talking about alphabet beltholders, I might include Michael Bentt, who won one fight in his career, and Herbie Hide, who twice got alphabet belts, beating Bentt and an ancient Tony Tucker,.who had been KO'd in a title shot two years earlier by Seldon. Hide had a pretty record but fought only two legit heavyweights in his career and was KO'd by both. I would pick everyone on the list, except maybe Martin, to beat Hide

The great Charles Martin started his carreer with 6 consecutive KO's. By his 13th pro fight the great Prince was already too much for Boxrec's notable resident Joey Dawejko. He won the vacant WBO NABO championship against another undefeated prospect. He defended that prestigious belt 4 times before earning his title shot for the vacant IBF belt. The great "Carlos Martino" easily disposed of Glazkov by hitting him so hard that the pain was felt all the way down to his knees. "ринц" recorded a rare KKO (knee knock out) over a guy who held a win over a guy who knocked down Tyson Fury. The great Prinz is clearly a top 10 fighter during the 2010 decade.

My thoughts entirely.

I can't believe he got paid for that 'performance'. :oo

Tyson Fury should be here definitely. He is the champion after all, unlike most of the candidates, who are just titleholders

Maybe you should wait until he actually loses the title & see what circumstances it occurs in before nominating for this list.

He might (I said might) go on to become a great champion.

There hasn't been a great champion since Lewis.

I voted for Damiani, not because I think he is the worst on that list, Bruce Seldon and Charles Martin can fight for that honour, but simply because he was the WBO champion when nobody gave a toss about that belt and Mike Tyson was in his pomp.

True.

I bet even Damiani didn't think he was the HW champion of the world.
