USA Boxers are all talk, no walk

Post by Chepppaaa »

back than usa was known for the best boxers in the world, along with cuba, the elite of boxing. us boxers were strong, athletic and most had a heart.

now that is over, from from trash talking boxers, who talk more shiitt, than they actualy train (broner), so chubby untrained boxer who act tough in the postight, but than when knocked down not even try to come up from the canvas (martin) to just period straight duckers and clinchers like ward and others.

the glory days of us boxing are over. 319 million people big country and only 2 top talents (spence & crawford), russia, cuba and europe are taking over.

cuba is as big as florida, with only 11 million people, which is nothing to the 319 mill of us, yet cuba produces better boxers than us. yes i am angry, martin acted like a bi&/h, dude was not even hurt, smiling. just an untrained chump. champion my ass.

This is directly attributable to our corrupt, second rate amateur system; USA Boxing. Anyone who has ever been an amateur fighter in the states knows what I'm talking about.

I agree.

America is the land of the glass hearted fighters, the duckers and the PED users. Their dominance in boxing has been over for years. The only divisions they seem to actually dominate now are the WW and LMW divisions, both of which are... let's be honest, pretty weak divisions.

WW has a scattering of world class fighters, no doubt but there's no depth to the division. Once you get out the top 6 or 7 you reach jokes like Peterson, Algieri and Bundu. LMW is just a weak division in general.

Compare to say, Cruiserweight which not only has a good bunch of genuine world level fighters like Lebedev, Glowacki, Breidis, Drozd, Huck and Makubu but also has good depth with lower ranked fighters like Ovill and Wlodarcyzk still being able to at least be competitive against the elite of the division.

Of course, Americans continue to still hype up their mediocre fighters and try to cram them and as many fighters from their divisions into the P4P lists as possible to make the divisions seem stronger than they are.

Just look at the current boxrec P4P list, it's a joke. Cramming in as many WW fighters as possible on the sole basis that it's one of only two divisions that Americans dominate. Any P4P list that doesn't feature Roman Gonzalez has zero credibility.

Cuban style boxing seems to be all the rage now a days. They have insanely well rounded fighters but the hardcore boxing community needs to stop acting like they are invincible/untouchable. Pernell Whitaker - Diosbelys Hurtado is a good example. Or maybe even Lara - Molina not too long ago. I'm pretty sure Luis Ortiz is a vulnerable boxer as well, regardless if he is old.

And this whole anti-U.S. boxing thing has seemed to be popular too. What I am failing to understand is the whole motive behind the people who openly speak out against any fighter from the USA whether he talks shit or not. Is it a big deal somebody with a loud mouth hurt your favorite fighters feelings? Or too much showboating/cockieness/confidence in the fighters getting on your nerves or sensitive side.

The problem in America is that they are scared to lose their zero, partly thanx to the Mayweather hype. Americans fight piles and piles of guys that accept to lose beforehand and only waste as much time as possible. Martin for example is used to the fact that his opponends waste as much time as possible whenever they are down and because of that, did the same, just watch Jason Gavern against Joshua, Jason survived Joshua longer as anyone out there, except for Whyte. In Europe, we don't have that, there they just stand up as soon as possible, acting like it wasn't a KO, they slipped away. If America wants to reach the top again, then they will have to risk their zero's and fight to their limits. What has Wilder learned from his first 25 opponends? Probably bearly anything. What has Joshua learned from Dillian Whyte? One hell of a lesson.

It's a matter of boxing's popularity being on the decline in the USA. It has been going downhill for decades. MMA has gotten much more poplular, and other "extreme sports" appeal to youth.
The Fall of the Soviet Union probably tripled the ammount of quality fighters. A good European fighter no longer needs to travel to the US to make good money, or even fight a US fighter.
The talent pool just isn't here.
Add in the fact that a lot of quality foriegn born fighters are very poplular in the US, GGG, Manny P and Canelo Alvarez have a huge fan base in the states.

Still will take the rest of the World Combined 1000 years to produce what Usa boxing did in 100 years. Louis, Robinson, Armstrong, Tunney, Dempsey, Greb, Langford, Charles, Ali,Holmes, Benny Leonard, Ray Leonard, Floyd, Oscar, Tyson, Whittaker, Pep, Evander, Johnson, Moore,Hagler, Hopkins, Hearns... :)

Exactly - easy to criticise when there is a slight decline. The usa boxers will bounce back when the popularity of the sport bounces back. World pro boxing owes the usa to the great platform
It has.

yesterday was yesterday, today is today.

back than usa boxing was #1 in the world by far. tyson, hagler, hearns were real boxers.
today all those guys, mayweather, ward, martin, etc. are a bunch of pus&%"ys...either untrained or straight up ducking, us boxing has been in a bad spot for easily 15 years now and it keeps getting worse. where ex soviet countrys are bringing top olympic amateur or champion caliber pros like ggg, kovalev, lomachenko, lebdeev, usyk, berebiev, egor and many more.

Not only has US boxing taken a dip. Look how far it has fallen!

Only 8 of the top 40 fighters on the all time boxrec rankings were not American.

You've just highlighted the fact American boxing is at an all time low

Unfortunately I agree with most of this. The amateur program in the US is an absolute joke and it used to be great. UFC has taken over. Big athletes here now go into football or basketball. The US is more competitive in the lower divisions of boxing.

I don't know why you're mad at Martin, he did the best he can. But yeah, Broner is jerk.

The interest here in boxing has waned. Fortunately, Europe has taken up the slack. We're still doing better than Indonesia. Remember, Europe has a bigger population than the US and is many countries, so they should have better boxers.

i dont aggree with you.

the amatur program in the us, i dont know much of it. as far as ufc goes, it is a complet joke, semi trained jerks, ufc is utter shi&("t.

big athletes going to football or basketball, maybe, some nfl players probably would be good heavyweights, so yeah you right on this one.

the interrest in boxing, also n the us was always big. from the tyson days, too the de la hoya days, too the pacquiao days, americans always loved to watch boxing, the more than 4 million ppv buys in pacquiao-mayweather fight just showed that.

europe isnt taking over boxing, it is more ex soviet countrys...so russia, kazakhstan, urkaine, a mix of east europe and asia

Europe does have a greater population and obviously comprises many countries, but the top European talent is fairly concentrated and the combined population of Russia, the UK, Germany, and Ukraine is very close to the US's. Even if you add in Kazakhstan (Asian, l know) it's only about 25 million more.

Boxing just isn't a big deal in the US anymore so kids who want to fight will gravitate towards UFC style combat.

As an immigrant to the States I know that the majority of Americans* have zero interest in the rest of the world unless something bad is happening.

You look at the most popular sports here & it's NFL, NBA & MLB - all of which call themselves 'World Champions' despite the fact that the world isn't allowed to enter teams in the championships. And baseball & basketball have many other leagues around the world but they can't be a part of the 'world championship'.

The US is moving from being a world leader to being like China was for a long time, isolated from everyone else.

* - the fact that you follow world boxing & are involved on this forum means that this isn't about you. And you know who I mean though.

I am pretty sure anything involving Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding at that time posted viewership numbers that well surpassed 99.9 percent of Boxing broadcasts that have ever aired...We may not be able to box anymore, but we are a diverse land and we like a good, tawdry story...

There ar highs and lows. Im trying to tell you guys Usa boxing will continue to produce The Top Stars, there just will not be as many of them as in the past. There are right now more than a few Studs on The Team Usa Junior and Youth Teams that would mop the floor with most professionals. You will still see The Floyd ,Roy,Oscar, Sugar Ray types still being produced by Usa boxing it just will be stiffer competition now from the rest of the World.

On a side note there has been for the last decade an extremely steep decline in African American Youth boxers on the West Coast. I have no explanation why because its not like that on The East Coast or Midwest.

I remember reading a quote from some one (not sure who) that went along the lines of "you can be the 100th best American footballer in the world and you'll get paid more than the 2nd best HW boxer" that probably goes a long way to explaining the decline of the HW division which the U.S. Pretty much dominated for a century.

heavyweight is 1 out of 17 div., so it is not only nfl & nba stealing top black boxing talents.
