Martin vs Joshua PPV numbers?

Post by Hinchy70 »

Does anyone know the amount of buys? I personally hope it crashed and burned and we never see a PPV again.

But not a chance of that happening

No idea but they'll probably be through the roof, the casuals have fallen for the bullshit hook, line and sinker. Attempted to point out a few facts to some of them on another forum, safe to say it didn't go down well.

Which forum? Would it be the Sky sports comment section... I'm a Joshua fan don't get me wrong but he's beat no one and if Parker comes through Takam, then Parker has more of a claim to hold that belt.

Football forum mate, they didn't take too kindly to my accusations of Joshua being a drug cheat. Apparently passing 'random' drugs tests, means that you must be clean, regardless of any other evidence there is.

Ah yes the gain of 2 and a half stone of muscle mass from the Olympics to his first professional fight. Plus his dad said he's not on drugs so it must be true. You should be careful brother, don't let the casuals realise the true nature of our sport, they won't like it and boxing will die a slow painful death

I have no idea of actual numbers, but my 'sense' of it from friends, colleagues and online was that there was not as much interest in this fight as the Whyte one.

Probably due to Martin being an utter Unknown to the public and not being lapped up as The World Champion by casuals who are at the very least familiar with Fury & Klitschko etc.

There was also no beef.

My guess is it did worse than the Whyte PPV which also had Eubank Jnr vs O'Sullivan, Bellew in a world title fight, Campbell in a competitive fight, Chisora etc.

If Whyte PPV did 400,000 then I'd say based on above this probably did about 100,000 less ... But total guesswork.

There was also no bragging about PPV numbers for this either whereas previously Hearn was shouting the numbers from the roof.

All just an educated guess though.

It was a stinker of a PPV in comparison to the December one regardless of figures ...

Just from the talk I heard today in town, I suspect the numbers were good. Lots tslking about it.

I also think the numbers were probably solid for this. Plenty of people on the AJ hype train.

What's your proof though ?

I assume you've no evidence to corroborate your claims, you're not close to his camp nor are you an expert in nutrition / strength and conditioning in which case you're just guessing yep ?

He's gained a stone and half more or less from debut to now. I didn't think he had put on two and a half stone between the Olympics and debut tho. As that would have meant he weighed less than 200lbs at the Olympics.

We are just guessing yeah. I'm not too fussed over the boxers that I think are probably at it when they are getting a lot of people pointing the finger, which Joshua is. It's the ones that I see blatantly obvious symptoms in where the same people who have the hump on Joshua hail them as a hero.

I'm pretty sure he bulked up massively from the olympics to his debut? Which was around 11/12 months between iirc

Fat free mass index is more than enough proof, depending on his body fat % Joshua is likely somewhere between 26 and 27, as low as 25.5 if you want to be very generous to him. Been plenty of research into it and most say that anyone over 25 hasn't got there naturally, some will say 26. Certainly fair to say that anyone between 25 or 26 it's more than reasonable to suspect them of using something, over 26 and they definitely have.

Yeah I'm sure he did. Not the two and a half stone that you have stated tho. I actually have no idea what he weighed at the weigh in of the Olympics, but given two and a half stone is 31lbs, and he weighed 230 on debut, I'll take a wild swing that your numbers are a bit out.

2 1/2 stone between the Olympics and now, or early last year to be more accurate, is more likely I'd say. Would fit with him being around 15st at the Olympics, then bulking up to 17.5st+ since then.

There is no proof. But we live in more enlightened and less naive times, and judging by social media I would say that the % of people who believe Joshua to be a clean athlete is about the same % who believed he beat Savon in the opening round of the Olympics.

To most people, it appear obvious that Joshua - in their opinion - is one of the clearest and most visible cases of PED abuse that has been seen in a boxer since Larry Owalumbimo.

The dfference - in the minds of these great many cynics - is that there is no appetite to out or Expose AJ at this present time.

There are numerous cases of promoters withholding test results for The exact reason, Matchroom and Sky would be pissing away millions

From the olympics to now I'm certain it is 2 to 2.5 stone, Tony Bellew eluded to this on the next big pod podcast, well I took it that way, I got the feeling Bellew is suspicious of AJ

One thing I'll say for Bellew, he really does seem to despise drug cheats. Definitely get the feeling he is suspicious of a few of his stablemates...

His exact words (to a certain degree of accuracy) "you can't gain 2-2.5 stone of lean muscle mass in a year naturally"

It's not like AJ has "dirty bulked" either, he's become more defined the larger the muscle mass

Just to play devil's advocate ...

Why would he want to bulk up to an unnecessarily heavy weight when the received wisdom seems to be that carrying too much lean muscle mass is a hindrance rather than a help ?

Bellew has it on his Twitter profile that he hates drugs cheats.

People criticise him and Fury for looking out of shape - but there is a big part of me that believes that what big guys who do 12 week intensive camps eating and training correctly, actually look like.

My opinion is 70% of top level boxers are cheating.

What's kind of nice is ones that clearly aren't like Fury & Bellew are beating them :box:

The theory goes it helps punch resistance and I'm guessing he can lean on his opponents more to wear them out, just like Wlad perfected and of course you hit harder, it's just your stamina crumbles

Another one that's very relevant in the debate about drugs.

Simply having a good figure doesn't really mean anything though - some guys can looked pretty ripped with very little training, whereas others will generally look a bit fleshy no matter how long they've trained.
