How do SKY and Hearn get away with using stubhub for advertising? Buying tickets to sell on is illegal. Obviously they'll say it's a place for people to sell unwanted/spare tickets etc but we all know what it's really for.

If sites like pirate bay can be banned for being a search engine for links to downloads (they host nothing and upload nothing) how do stubhub and the like get away with it?

They get away with it because they can. The authorities don't seem to be bothered about the obvious collusion, so I can't see it ending any time soon.

because pirate bay is doing it for the people at the expense of the big corps but stubhub is a big corp doing it at the expense of the people, thats how this shit world works

I wouldn't use one of those sites even if you were paying. There are ethical ticket sites and I tend to just get my tickets when they go on sale. It doesn't make it any less of a problem just because I don't personally use it, I didn't use touts either, doesn't stop it being a crime does it?

Shockingly, they even have 2 or 3 'ticket collection' machines INSIDE the O2 arena. Awful practice.

If you lie about the value or its a fake ticket its then illegal. Morally it's wrong but certainly not illegal.

No question it's illegal, but it's like tax evasion or tax avoidance. One's legal, one's not but using either makes you a C**t!

How clear do they have to make it and do they have to state that there are tickets still available at face value? The reason i ask is that my brother ended up getting a couple of tickets through something like this. He thought it was a normal outlet and wanted decent enough seats. Turned out they were cheap seats sold at a higher ticket category (ie seats were priced at £25, £35, £55 for example, his £25 were priced at £55). I went onto ticketmaster and could get any ticket type i wanted at 'face value'

All seems very shady to me and deliberately misleading which is why i would never touch any of them no matter how much i wanted to go.

There must be loopholes where this type of thing is concerned. If you buy something outright it's yours bought and payed for and you are free to do with it as you wish. If some cabbage is willing to pay way over the odds for your property then that's their prerogative. They've either too much money or not enough brain cells.

According to WIkipedia "Other than in the case of football tickets, there is no legal restriction against reselling tickets in the UK". It's still a terrible practice though.

resale of football tickets is illegal under section 166 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. I don't how clubs that are linked with stubhub get away with it but you can only sell games if you have a season ticket but don't know if you have to be a member to buy them. At Arsenal season ticket holders can sell individual games but only to other members and for face value.

Yes, did it for ten years. Made a lot of cash, too. Still do occasionally, but it's not what it was. You've got to know what you're doing.

I bet, most gigs sell out these days, but the second market can be tiny if existent at all. I've never bought tickets from a tout but I have sold to them.

Most tickets go to touts.
