And that's crazy in and of itself. Donald has been a career LW and Cote a career MW who was known as one of the most powerful strikers in that division.jujigatame wrote:Who is gonna want to fight Khabib on 10 days notice? Maybe Cerrone would have been crazy enough but he's at 170 now with a fight against Cote coming up.

Re: MMA thread?
The best semi-realistic options for a replacement are:
Michael Johnson
Rustam Khabilov
Adriano Martins
James Krause
Gleison Tibau
Nik Lentz
Leandro Silva
These are the best guys who don't have a fight scheduled and don't have some obvious compelling reason not to take the fight, beyond the fact that it's 10 days notice.

They've got a replacement to fight Khabib. Some prospect I've never heard of, Darrell Horcher:

Good for Khabib. At least he gets to get in there and do something.
Re: MMA thread?
Tate v Nunes now on UFC 200, hardly the mind blowing co-main Dana promised.

It was great seeing JDS back to his old self last night. After that performance against Overeem I thought he might be completely shot. I'd be interested in seeing JDS/Hunt II at some point. I'll also take Nelson/Lewis in a battle of hard-hitting fat guys.

What do you lot think about if Jon Jones ever moved up to HW? Reckon he could win the belt?

Re: MMA thread?
Yea I think he could. Although these legal issues have been terrible for his career. Lost a whole year of his prime. I have serious doubts he can keep it together to achieve anything close to his full potential.

Hell yeah, I think Cormier could win that belt.danamba7 wrote:What do you lot think about if Jon Jones ever moved up to HW? Reckon he could win the belt?
Re: MMA thread?
Cormier won the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament. I would not be surprised if he won the UFC heavyweight title.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Hell yeah, I think Cormier could win that belt.danamba7 wrote:What do you lot think about if Jon Jones ever moved up to HW? Reckon he could win the belt?
Re: MMA thread?
I don't think he could, he loses a few of the advantages if he moves up that he has at LHW mainly height and reach which he uses to cover up the holes in his striking and it helps a huge amount with his leverage in wrestling. I don't see him getting past Werdum/JDS/Velazquez/Miocic/Overeem/Browne/Arlovski or Hunt just off the top of my head.danamba7 wrote:What do you lot think about if Jon Jones ever moved up to HW? Re: MMA thread?
Honestly I think he beats most of those guys very decisively. Only Cain and Werdum would be 50/50 fights. And Werdum is pushing 40 and won't be able to maintain this level much longer.
People forget Cormier was an elite HW and Jones handled him.

Re: MMA thread?
Sure but I feel that Cormiers skill set and size is what helped Jones beat a guy who was an elite heavyweight. Most of the guys I mentioned are much bigger than Cormier and I believe that without his reach/leverage Jones wouldn't be elite. He would get caught in the striking by guys who are almost as long as him and I don't think his wrestling would be as effective. That in my opinion is why Gus was so successful against him.jujigatame wrote:Honestly I think he beats most of those guys very decisively. Only Cain and Werdum would be 50/50 fights. Askren's situation is sad. UFC didn't want him, Bellator didn't want him, so he has to go to Asia and fight obscure no-hopers. I hope he's at least making decent money.

He wouldn't be giving up reach to any of them.p4p1 wrote:I don't think he could, he loses a few of the advantages if he moves up that he has at LHW mainly height and reach which he uses to cover up the holes in his striking and it helps a huge amount with his leverage in wrestling. He still wouldn't have the same advantages. The reach advantage that he has wouldn't be enough to cover the holes in his striking.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He wouldn't be giving up reach to any of them.p4p1 wrote:I don't think he could, he loses a few of the advantages if he moves up that he has at LHW mainly height and reach which he uses to cover up the holes in his striking and it helps a huge amount with his leverage in wrestling. Re: MMA thread?
Poor Fox card. Khabib did what was expected and Rashad got caught early. Hopefully they can reschedule the Ferguson fight for Khabib, was really looking forward to that.
Re: MMA thread?
It was too quick, I can't say Glover looked good or Rashad looked bad it was just feeling out then over. Glover does have some ridiculous power though.

I hear ya. I was hoping for a good scrap. Rashad definitely went out though.p4p1 wrote:It was too quick, I can't say Glover looked good or Rashad looked bad it was just feeling out then over. Glover does have some ridiculous power though.

I believe you're severely overestimating the skills in that division.p4p1 wrote:He still wouldn't have the same advantages. Re: MMA thread?
Had I been asked how Bones would fare at HW before he faced DC, I would have said he would be stepping up too much and lose to the top guys. However, after seeing how Jones handled DC, he would have a good chance @ the HW title. DC has fought some top HWs and none were able to even come close to taking him down and beating him the way Jones did. I'd take him over Werdum right now.
Re: MMA thread?
Nope. He has been taken off the 200 card though over contract or promotional disputes or something along those lines.
