What happened to that Junior Saba/Benjamin kid?

Post by TopGun »

Anyone remember him, from the peacock gym, got a lot of free PR as the next 6 weight world champion but was yet to have a pro fight?

He was due on the Mayweather under card some time ago but pulled out at the last minute....not heard of him since. He got more free publicity from sky/allegedly than any other non Olympic/amateur I have ever come across.

I'd be interested to know what has happened to him?

Excellent question! I remember him doing the Mayweather type pad work and looking pretty fancy but I'd never seen him box. Did he even have a pro fight? I remember he was meant to fight on a Floyd undercard or sign with him? Bit sketchy. Seems he just vanished.

Thats him standing next to Devin Haney in the Mayweather gym in July 2015, he says a few words which suggest he wants to box

The definition of a gym fighter. Pulls out of his fight last minute, only known for doing totally pointless fancy pads. Can't believe anyone in the boxing media took an interest, surely they've seen this hundreds of times over?

I wonder if he had an issue with his brain scan. Just a guess

What makes you say that? He was down to fight on the Mayweather undercard and pulled out a day before, surely the brain scan would have stopped him even setting up a fight?

If he pulled out a day before the fight then it's unlikely to be an issue with his brain scan. Perhaps he just bottled it? Maybe he has anxiety issues?

I've also wondered as to why he keeps on changing his name, first he was Otuo Saba, then he changed to Junior Saba and now Junior Benjamin. I wonder if he's changed his name again ....

Tapping a pad lightly at great speed doesn't make you a prospect. It's like those guys who do incredible football skills but when you put them in an actual football match they choke.

Funny I was only looking on here for any more information on this mythical kid today (as I do intermittently with many of the ‘urban legend’ type characters) and just half an hour ago he’s posted a video on Instagram doing bag work. A Comment from someone he knows also suggested ‘debut’ soon. I was under the impression like others he was unable to obtain a license due to potential brain irregularities. I’m guessing they never developed and maybe we may see him?

Supposedly making his debut 8/9 in York Hall.
Let's see if it go a head. I have my reservations...

He was not just a gym fighter. He could not get licensed.

We took this over a year ago and after around 9 months he got approved for his license.

He is trained by Xavier Miller at IQ in Neasden and makes his debut on September 8th at York Hall.

Thanks for the update Steve, good to hear the truth in these stories.

Tunde on latest George Groves Boxing Club podcast and says Saba failed a brain scan and that’s why he never boxed as a pro.
